Chill Out, Bro.
During an interview with The Independent, The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers told the UK paper that he saves all his beard trimmings and stores them in a bag under his sink.
The reason, he insisted, was because facial hair makes his music both more rocking and more rolling — and, clean-shaven, he's better at cranking out the pop. The thing is, he needs to take the bag out and look at it about once a week to remind himself that pop music is OK and kind of underrated. Staring at the bag of beard, he suddenly remembers who he is deep inside — and everything, once again, is alright in the world.
In that same way, we hope that frequently looking at these little daily Things To Do posts remind you that Dallas is a pretty cool place to live, and that we here at Central Track have always got your back. — Cory Graves
Toro y Moi at South Side Music Hall
Chill-wave enthusiasts/Urban Outfitters employees will delighted to know that Toro y Moi will be performing a sold-out show tonight in Dallas. (The Urban employees, we should note, are mostly just happy that everyone is at the concert instead of shopping.) Plus, y'know' he usually ends up putting on quite the show. — Trace McCaslin
Paramore at Verizon Theatre
Paramore's future certainly seemed in doubt when the band's guitar and drum playing brothers abruptly left the group. Not long after, though, frontwoman Hayley Williams and Co. regrouped and released a self-titled LP that went on to become the band's first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Guess they've still got it. Writing the Future and Copeland open. — CG
Birthday Celebration for RC Williams at MoMo's Lounge
The thing about the RC Williams-led Wednesday night jam sessions at The Prophet Bar — aside from them being the best weekly event in town for years — is the fact that you never know what big hip-hop star or jazz, blues or R&B musician might decide to drop by and sit in with the band. It's no secret, either, that Erykah Badu is known to stop by at least a couple times a year. When Williams celebrates his birthday this evening, there will be no guesswork required; Ms. Badu will be there, DJing as her Lo Down Loretta Brown persona. — CG
The Maine at Dada
Arizona pop-punk quintet The Maine hits Dada in support of its March release, American Candy, a kind of followup to 2013's Forever Halloween. Although the band has toured with the likes of Good Charlotte, and showed up at pop punk fests like Warped Tour and South By So What, you shouldn't expect a polished, generic show. Since splitting with their label before 2011's Pioneer, The Maine has attempted to cultivate a more rock-influenced, dynamic sound, going so far as to hire Brendan Benson to produce its previous record. Expect them to show off that sound — and to lean heavily on their new material — at this show. Nick Santino and The Technicolors open. — Stephen Young
Hopped Up Cinema: Nacho Libre at Alamo Drafthouse
Each month, Alamo Drafthouse combines cinema and craft brews with its Hopped Up Cinema series. This month, they're pairing Jack Black's Nacho Libre with a flight of beers from Deep Ellum Brewing Co., including their new Neato Bandito Imperial Mexican Style Lager. — Lauren Rushing
