Scenes From Josey Records' First-Ever National Record Store Day Bash.
Eight years in now, it's not like National Record Store Day is exactly a new phenomenon. Parties like the one held at Good Records over the weekend, for instance, have long established their bashes as anticipated annual traditions.
It's a different story, though, at Josey Records, Dallas' newest vinyl Mecca. That's because for this massive vinyl shop, it very much was their first rodeo.
And while Josey's RSD celebration bore all the familiar hallmarks that others do — live performances from Sam Lao, -topic, and Blue the Misfit (among others), plus free booze and lots of exclusive vinyl — the shop's gargantuan 15,500-square-foot space doesn't quite lend itself to the rager vibe that smaller shops like Good have a much easier time throwing.
Still, if we're talking the true meaning of Record Store Day – y'know, supporting local-owned shops by hunting for rare and/or must-own vinyl — there's really no better place in town to do that than at Josey Records, which was the real point hammered home on this Saturday.
