It's April 20, the St. Patrick's Day for weed enthusiasts!
Unlike that other holiday, though, there won't be any parades. There won't be the thousands of drunk bros cheers-ing each other's green beers whilst their girlfriends are peeing and/or puking in the middle of Greenville Avenue, either.
No, today is about “celebrating” a different kind of green — y'know, the kind that makes you want to spend a few hours randomly watching videos of a red hot nickel ball melting its way through various household items.
Just be sure not to blaze too many doobs today, otherwise you might miss out on some pretty kick ass events. — Cory Graves
Oral Fixation: “Happy Camper” at Wyly Theatre
Among the crop of Dallasites sharing their juicy, true life tales on the Oral Fixation stage tonight will be Old 97's guitarist Ken Bethea, who'll share his story about leaving the corporate world at age 30 to join a rock band. — CG
Caitlin Rose at Dan's Silverleaf
Though she was raised in Nashville, Caitlin Rose was actually born in Dallas. Her mother, Liz Rose, moved the family there to pursue a songwriting career and, man, did that ever work out for her. Twenty songs she's co-written have been released by Taylor Swift. As for Caitlin, the ex-punk rocker is quite the badass herself. Andrew Combs opens this one. — CG
Terminator 2 at Rubber Gloves
Just a couple nights after Denton noise band Vexed UK played its last-ever show at Gloves, the city's notoriously guitar-less metal band Terminator 2 will do the same, as bassist David Saylor relocates to Colorado. Mike Majkowski, SSBT, Baby Blood and They Say the Wind Made Them Crazy will help bid them hasta la vista. — CG
Beer Tasting Dinner Party at Braindead Brewing
Tonight, Deep Ellum's Braindead Brewing hosts its first-ever beer tasting dinner on Monday, April 20. The five-course meal will play off of the stoner holiday theme by including hemp in some of the dishes, in addition to a rare beer tasting. The Slackers at Trees (Free)
Are Hellcat Records' New York City-based, 1991-formed The Slackers a really late Second Wave ska band or just a really early Third Wave ska band? Either way, here they are coming to town, once again reminding us that a Fourth Wave is imminent. So? Practicing skanking again and learn to deal with it, I suppose. — Pete Freedman
Lionize, The Delta Saints at Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill
Co-headlining this one is Maryland based outfit Lionize, which combines bits of reggae into its hard rock, and The Delta Saints, a hard-rocking Nashville-based blues band. Meghann Wright & The Green Gallows also performs. — CG
Good Graeff at The Whitehouse (Free)
The acoustic guitar and cello playing of twin sisters Brooke and Brit Graeff lay at the heart of “folk-charged indie pop” outfit Good Graeff. The band was just in town last week, where it opened for Mates of State at Dada. Tonight, however, it's taking a break from that tour to play this free show at this Denton coffee shop. Oh, and if you do go, ask Brooke about her old day job, working as a Foley artist on films like Cloverfield. Cameron Matthew Ray also performs. — CG
Half Baked at Alamo Drafthouse
Though he was born with a face that just kind of looks perpetually stoned, Half Baked star Jim Breuer insists he no longer gets high. And while he doesn't distance from past roles like Bryan the stoner — he cringes, sure, but they made him who he is today — the comedian's now found God, and makes his spiritual journey a big part of his stand-up sets these days. So, um, unlike you, he's probably not getting high today and giggling at this Dave Chappelle-led film. — CG
