TV on the Radio at Granada Theater (Sold Out)
In 2011, TV on the Radio released Nine Types of Light, a somber LP that came out just days before the band's bassist Gerard Smith died from lung cancer. It was a rough period there for a sec, but the band's 2014 Seeds LP finds the band both dealing with and finally moving past the tragedy, and delivering some of the most simple, straightforward and poppy material it's put out to date. The band's currently in town for a two-night swing at Granada, both of which have been long sold out. Assuming you didn't get tickets to either of those shows, TV on the Radio is also playing at Good Records early Friday evening. — CG
Swervedriver at Dada
Earlier this month, Brit alt-rock act Swervedriver released its first album in 17 years. After touring the states with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden, the Oxford-based outfit amassed a decent following of its own on our side of the pond, though the band had a heavier shoegaze bent than either of those other seminal '90s acts. In any case, the band's Dada show will no doubt come to the delight of many a nostalgia-obsessed Dallasite. — CG
Black Milk at Three Links
When we first learned that Black Milk had moved to Dallas from his native hometown of Detroit, we were pretty excited. The 30-year-old born Curtis Cross has been in the hip-hop world for a while now, having long gained a deserved reputation as one of the most celebrated emcees and producers in the alternative rap world. And tonight, like he did at one of our early Red Bull Sound Select shows, he'll perform with a full live backing band. Picnictyme, Crit Morris and Jarvis Hodges open. — Mikel Galicia
Fargo at Texas Theatre
The film that taught us to fear wood chippers is back on the big screen for two nights this week, and in glorious 35mm to boot. — CG
Beach Boys at Verizon Theatre
The Beach Boys is an act about as legendary as they come, and there's also no denying that the band's Pet Sounds album is among a handful of the very best ever made by any band. Ever. That, of course, was then. The version of the band currently calling itself the Beach Boys features only Mike Love and Bruce Johnston from the band's glory days. It's worth noting, in any case, that Brian Wilson will be performing at this same venue on June 24. Do with that information what you will. — CG
Arts District Wine Stroll
Kicking off Dallas four-day Savor culinary festival is a wine sampling event in the Arts District. It's worth noting, too, that Deep Ellum's own monthly wine walk happens tonight, too, and will feature a new, music-themed glass. Dallas: now with twice as many opportunities to get classy drunk. — CG
Hearts Like Fists at Margo Jones Theatre
The Fair Park located theatre's new stage production is a superhero love story, in which the play's heroine must stop the evil Dr. X, who is busy trying to poison all the happy couples in town. At the same time, she falls for a heartbroken doctor, who is busy trying to develop an artificial heart so he might one day love again. Opening Night is technically on Friday, but you can catch it at a pay-what-you-can preview run tonight. — CG
Crate Dating at Off the Record
Find your next bf/gf/one night stand at this unique singles event, which combines crate digging with some good ol' fashioned music snobbery while you discuss your selections with your potential fling. It beats swiping away on Tinder, for one, and it should provide more suitable matches, seeing as how you'll already have two things in common — your love of vinyl and hanging out in bars on weeknights. — CG
Fresh 45s at Crown and Harp
For this month's edition of Crown and Harp's recurring, all-vinyl 45s night, the club will welcome special guest DJ Bamboozle, aka Eli Goldstein of Boston house duo Soul Clap. As always, residents DJ Jay Clipp, JT Donaldson and Spinderella will be spinning old-school singles, as well. — CG
