Birdcloud at City Tavern
Birdcloud is a duo with two girls singing about very inappropriate things — their first song was about going down on your best friend, to give you an idea — in what they consider a “modern country” style. Really, they just sound like faux white trash/hillbillies making songs to try and piss anyone even remotely conservative off. They're interesting, to say the least. Dead Sara at Trees
Hollywood outfit Dead Sara is a band perhaps most well-known for covering a Nirvana tune. The band's take on “Heart-Shaped Box” was impressive enough, anyway, that Dave Grohl said “Dead Sara should be the next biggest rock band in the world.” The show may not prove quite as exciting as that one time the real Nirvana played this room but, hey, it's something. — CG
Armageddon at Alamo Drafthouse
Celebrating Bruce Willis' birthday without watching The Sixth Sense seems like a mistake, but the guy's still cool enough for Alamo Drafthouse to celebrate his birthday for four days in a row, so you know he's starred in some other awesome flicks. The Drafthouse will show Armageddon and Hudson Hawk on Monday, The Last Boy Scout on Tuesday, The Fifth Element on Wednesday and a Die Hard double feature on Thursday. Oral Fixation: “Writing on the Wall” at Wyly Theatre
For this month's edition of Dallas' favorite storytelling series, a few brave souls will share tales about those times in their lives when disaster seemed all but unavoidable. Expect to hear a poop-filled story of a mother learning to handle her autistic child, the take of a wife coming to grips with her husband's mental illness, and the story of an elementary school bullying incident that led one man to discover his future career, plus plenty more. — CG
Kevin Devine & The Goddamn Band at The Prophet Bar
Back in 2013, with the help of his fans, Devine raised $114,805 via Kickstarter, which he used to record and simultaneously self-release his seventh and eighth studio albums. The Goddman Band that's been backing him since then will help him pull off the wide array of material from his lo-fi punk-based Bubblegum album and the more acoustic-leaning Bulldozer. Whitehorse at Dada
Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland, the duo behind this Canadian folk rock band, each had solo music careers before and after they married in 2006, but it wasn't until 2011 that the two decided to work together. And they're still going strong. They just released their latest album, Leave No Bridge Unburned, last month. So you'll hear plenty of fresh material if you opt to check them out tonight.
