ATTPAC Nets Ira Glass, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Sarah Koenig and Jad Abumrad For Summer Speaker Series.
The AT&T Performing Arts Center team just announced its new #thinkspeak summer speaker series — and damn if they didn't score some dynamic public radio, podcast and television vets includes for it. Among the speakers: Radiolab's Jad Abumrad; People Magazine's sexiest astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson; This American Life's Ira Glass; and Serial's Sarah Koenig.
Let that sink in for a sec. Again, these are some huge scores.
Here's what we know about their upcoming Dallas engagements:
• Abumrad will kick off the series on Friday, May 15, with a presentation at Dallas City Performance Hall called “Gut Churn,” which will feature the accompaniment of cellist Zoe Keating.
• When Tyson returns to the Winspear Opera House on Monday, June 15, he'll touch on everything from Star Wars to Gravity in his “An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies” talk.
• Usually one to paint pictures with his vivid storytelling, Glass' own returns to the Winspear on Saturday, July 11, will find the National Public Radio host relying on dancers Monica Bill Barnes and Anna Bass to help him merge two art forms that, as he puts it, “have no business being together.”
• Just one day after she delivers the keynote address at Fort Worth's second annual Podcast Movement event, Koenig will speak to a Dallas crowd at the Winspear on August 3, likely mining similar territory.
Those out there trying to decide which of these four heavyweights they'd like to see the most needn't worry: The ATTPAC folks have made these things affordable enough so that it's not a huge thing to try and see all of them. Four-show subscription packages start at just $83 for balcony seats. From there, tickets go up to $205.50 for a four-pack as you work your way down to the orchestra pit.
Never before has a summer's worth of nerding out been so affordable.
