Wave Goodnight.
It may sound like the beginning of a bad joke, but KFC launched a hot dog version of its abominable Double Down sandwich that, like its predecessor, sees the bun replaced with an oddly-shaped slab of fried chicken.
At the moment, the chicken-fried harbinger of our doom is only available in the Philippines — and in small quantities at that. That's something to be thankful for, to be sure.
Something even better to be thankful for? The fact that you live in a place like North Texas that, aside from being Double Down Dog-free, also has no shortage of things to do on any given night. Take tonight, for instance. — Cory Graves
The Ballad of Shovels and Rope at Texas Theatre
Members of country-folk duo Shovels & Rope, Carry Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, star in a documentary about their experiences creating their album O' Be Joyful. If you enjoy documentaries and the duo, check it out. And if you'd like to see the two play live, catch them tomorrow night at South Side Music Hall. — Carly Seitz
The Producers at The Magnolia
If Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Will Ferrell thought the remake was good enough to star in, you know Mel Brooks' original version of The Producers is just as hilariously tasteless. It's a comedy about a Broadway producer and an accountant who team up to pull off a pretty unethical get-rich-quick scheme, using a show that glamorizes Hitler. It's showing at both 7:30 or 10 p.m. this evening. — CS
Soundwaves at Sunset Lounge
Has anybody been hustling harder than -topic of late? Let's count the ways: Not only did the Dallas producer/rapper pull down a placement in a McDonald's spot recently, but at this past weekend's Red Bull Sound Select show at Three Links he also pushed the boundaries of what it means to be a rapper in Dallas in 2015 with his genre-defying live backing band. Tonight, and every Tuesday, -topic and his pal Simon Phoenix spin “neo-soul remixes, hip-hop flips and wavvvy instrumentals” at Sunset, while the bar serves up $2 tacos. Tough to say if -topic himself will be in attendance — the kid's been making moves at Sundance this week — but we imagine Phoenix will appreciate the love regardless. — CG
Deep Ellum Beer Dinner at Vickery Park
If you like both beer and eating meals in the evening, you should check out the beer dinner Deep Ellum Brewing Co. is hosting at Vickery Park's Dallas location tonight. Several courses will be served, each with a different one of its beers to try. Call (214) 827-1432 to reserve a spot. — CS
Pitch Perfect Sing-a-Long at Alamo Drafthouse
Talk yourself out of doing crystal meth if it ever crosses your mind, but don't dismiss your musical prowess (or lack thereof) just because bitches may insult you behind your back. Own that voice of yours — even if you sound terrible — and feel free to gleefully eschew the theater's normal no talking rule. — CS
