Don't Touch That Dial.
Is Deflategate over yet? Are we at least done talking about it? Well, no, Bill Nye isn't, anyway. The science guy recently went on television to call New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick a bullshitter.
Sick burn, Bill.
You know who else is a bullshitter? Anybody that told you that nothing good happens in Dallas on a Monday night. Here's some proof. — Cory Graves
High Fidelity Book Club at Off the Record Update: This event has been moved to Thursday. — CG
From regular lectures by notable figures in the local music scene, to rounds of vinyl-centric speed dating, Off the Record has come into its own as a place for music snobs to get together and conversate without being judged. There'll be a lot of said conversating going on tonight, too, as a bunch of folks who've recently finished reading Patti Smith's memoir, Just Kids, will gather to discuss the musician's relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, and the artists that wound up shaping their respective careers. Over Smith-themed drinks, of course.
Bike Maintenance Class at Dallas Bike Works
So maybe you made a New Year's Resolution to get in shape, and you've decided biking is the way to go. But your bike has been sitting outside, unused, for so long that your tires are flat, the chain has rusted to hell and it's covered in dirt. Or maybe you're an avid biker but always seek someone else's help to fix a flat, lube your chain, clean your bike etc. Well, now you can learn how to properly take care of your bike on your own in the free maintenance class Dallas Bike Works offers. The shop hosts the class the third Monday of each month. — Carly Seitz
UHF at Alamo Drafthouse
This summer marks the 25th anniversary of Weird Al's box office bomb, UHF. In spite of the fact that the Ultra High Frequency band on television sets isn't really a thing anymore, the movie's remained a something of a cult favorite in the years since. It should fare much better on the big screen tonight, too, especially given the way audiences have warmed to cable access-related humor, a la Tim & Eric. — CG
Recycled Cinema at CentralTrak
Ohio State University professor Roger Beebe is currently on a four-month tour, during which he's showing a number of his experimental, found footage films. Tonight, he'll be screening some old favorites, including the six-projector Last Light of a Dying Star as well as newer works like Historia Calamitatum, which “explores the forbidden pleasures of male tears.” — CG
