Boom 94.5 Is Awesome, But It Could Use A Little More Skip In Its Step.

No MTV? No problem.

For years there in North Texas, the move was just to roll call the homies for another late Saturday night spent huddled in a room and adjusting the antenna to get a premium picture on your TV set.

And then the music would kick in.

“Every Saturday at 11 p.m. me and my neighbors set it off at least seven deep, watching Flava…”

Ah, yes. Flava TV.

We all remember it, right? It was the only TV show in the area that covered hip-hop, showed the current music videos and engaged its viewers thanks to the efforts of high-energy host Skip Cheatham.

Don't know what I'm talking about? OK, here's a quick analogy: What Carson Daly was to TRL, Cheatham was to Flava TV. He interviewed artists ranging from Ciara to Twista and even snagged a brief interview with Aaliyah before her untimely death. Also? He hyped up the latest hip-hop music videos.

It was rad. And, in its prime, Flava TV somehow managed to outperform Saturday Night Live and Entertainment Tonight. Then, at some point in 2012, it left the airwaves — and, subsequently, it left Cheatham, the show's beloved host, without a hip-hop home.

But now, with the recent addition of classic hip-hop station Boom 94.5 to the area radio dial, it's plausible that this might not be the case for too much longer as a number of former Flava TV viewers — myself included — are publicly yearning for return of our hip-hop guru.

Since Boom 94.5's launch, Twitter has been flooded with the #HireSkip hashtag that's acting as an informal campaign to get Chetham — who knows a thing or two about the kind of hip-hop this station is playing given his role as Flava TV's host and producer from 1998 to 2012 (not to mention time spent on the air at K104 from '94 to 2010) — on board as one of the new station's host.

For his part, Cheatham, who now serves as a producer on D.L. Hughley's radio show, is encouraging the love. And there's plenty of that. Here's just taste of what the people are saying.

Can we please make this happen, world? It would make teenage me so happy.
