It was a busy weekend for Facebook hoaxes. Within a matter of hours, Macaulay Culkin and Miley Cyrus both died in separate incidents, and Fort Worth's Old South Pancake House burned to the ground.
Except for the fact that none of those things actually happened. Good thing, because Culkin's set to perform in Dallas tonight.
To that end, you'll probably see lots of alerts from people at that show popping up on your Facebook page later. Of course, you won't know if anything they're saying is true unless you get out and scope things out for yourself. — Cory Graves
The Pizza Underground, Har Mar Superstar
Let's get one thing straight from the jump: Macaulay Culkin's pizza-themed The Velvet Underground cover band is not good — although, to be fair, we're not sure that they're necessarily supposed to be. Whether it's the kind of absurdist performance art piece/commentary on the value of art and music that the noted Andy Warhol associates would have appreciated or the kind of bullshit the band would have rolled their eyes at remains unclear. Though the band says they initially formed in 2012, the fact that waited until a couple weeks after Lou Reed's passing to record their first demo seems a bit auspicious. In any case we expect the contingent of folks showing up tonight for the guaranteed trainwreck that's sure to be the band's set are probably more interested in catching a glimpse of the Home Alone actor in person than they are about the band's actual songs. Fortunately, the half-jokey R&B crooner Har Mar Superstar — aka the Ron Jeremy of dance rock — is well worth showing up early for. — CG
Justin Townes Earle at Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill
Five albums into his career (a sixth is due out in January), Justin's no longer known primarily as Steve Earle's kid. Like his pops, though, he's helped bring back some much-needed credibility to the world of Americana music. Or as Noisey recently put it: “[Earle] continues down his career path of showing the world that alt-country can be pretty dope.” — CG
Wiz Khalifa at House of Blues
Even though it seems like Wiz was just here — to be fair he did just headline Gexa Energy Pavilion with his Under the Influence of Music tour back in August — much has changed for the weed-loving Pittsburgh rapper. Since he was here last Wiz has not only gone through a divorce, but seen his single “We Dem Boyz” become something of an unofficial team anthem for a better-than-expected Dallas Cowboys team. And seeing as how this House of Blues stop is much more intimate than his last swing through town, he'll do back to back nights at the venue. Holla! — CG
Turbo Fruits at Lola's
Turbo Fruits, are unequivocally the cream of Nashville's garage rock crop. The band's live sets are tight, its sound is surprisingly full and its nonstop on-stage antics (if there's a book somewhere on epic on-stage rock 'n' roll poses, these dudes have read it front to back) are absolutely entertaining. Sealion and War Party open. — Pete Freedman
