Scenes From Last Night's Gringo Star Show at City Tavern.

Sometimes rock shows are madhouses. Sometimes they're not.

Last night's Gringo Star show in the underutilized upstairs space at City Tavern fit comfortably into the second category.

But when a show isn't nuts-to-butts, other advantages come to light. And last night's headlining show from the Atlanta indie rock outfit certainly benefited from its intimacy. For one, the band could actually hear the on-hand fans singing along to cuts from the band's earlier catalog, including its breakthrough 2008 release, All Y'all. Better yet, these fans also got to directly interact with the band after the show over the by the merch booth.

No, not every show has to be a madhouse to be a solid time. In fact, sometimes not being a madhouse can ensure it.
