Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed the first-ever domestic case of Ebola is currently being treated in a Dallas hospital. A lot of people in town — presumably all the ones that've seen Outbreak — are freaking the fuck out.
Should they be? According to scientist Peter Piot — who, we should point out, helped discover the disease — it's not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. He's even gone on record as saying he wouldn't be worry if someone with Ebola sat next to him on the subway — provided they didn't throw up on him or anything.
Not to make light of the situation, but we wouldn't let it get to you too much. In any case, we wouldn't change our plans or quarantine ourselves in our houses for the foreseeable future. — Cory Graves
Kacey Musgraves at Granada Theater (Sold Out)
At the complete opposite end of the rampant, repugnant bro country movement are acts like the Mineola-raised Kacey Musgraves, who's blown up in the past couple of years thanks to her honest and tender songs about drinking whiskey, smoking weed and not giving a fuck about conforming to anyone else's standards. It's paid off, too, earning Musgraves took a couple of Grammys earlier this year, with her Same Trailer, Different Park LP beating out Taylor Swift's Red in the process. More recently, she's experienced a bit of crossover success opening for Katy Perry on tour and filming a special together. — CG

Famed travel guide Rick Steves has made a career out of successfully convincing tourists to check out off-the-beaten-path spots abroad through his popular guidebooks and the 100-plus specials he's filmed for KERA. In tonight's lecture, he'll make the case for giving Israel a shot. Hey, they can't all be radicals. — CG

Up-and-comer Leon Bridges has been winning over audiences in the Fort of late with his simple-yet-undeniably-authentic brand of retro-soul. He's as charismatic a character as he is a snappy dresser, which is to say that he just might be North Texas' quote-unquote Next Big Thing. It's all the more impressive a fact when one considers he only picked up the guitar a couple years ago. See him now so you can say you saw him when. — CG
Dallas Society of Visual Communications' October Meeting at Angelika Film Center
New York-based designer, illustrator and art director Timothy Goodman is just as well-known for dating one of his friends for 40 days as an experiment as he is for the book jackets he's designed and industry publications he's appeared in. As the featured guest at this month's DSVC meeting, Goodman will be giving a presentation at the Angelika. — CG
