After 20 Years In Business, Greenville Avenue Record Store CD Source Is Closing.
Vinyl-touting record stores may be sprouting up like crazy in North Texas these days, but the sad truth remains: The music-slinging business isn't the most profitable venture that exists.
And in the face of three exciting recent announcements — Deep Ellum's new record store bar, Off The Record; the new vinyl-focused independent megastore Josey Records; and Oak Cliff's soon-to-come Spinster Records — North Texas was served up a reminder of this fact this weekend as the venerable Greenville Avenue-housed, jewel case-adoring CD Source announced that it's going the way of its once-nearby rival, CD World.
On Friday, CD Source owner Lance Price announced via an email to his customers that, after 20 years of operation, his store will be closing in the near future. No firm date on the closure has yet been announced, but Price cites lease issues as the reason for his coming to this “most difficult decision” and confirms that the store's final day will be coming “very soon.”
Always a trusty place for finding older CDs — and a must-stop spot for reselling music — CD Source will be certainly missed in the Dallas record store landscape. But it shouldn't be skipped in its final weeks, as Price promises specials, discounts and performances in his store's waning moments.
Below, check out Price's farewell, reprinted in full.
Dear Valued Customers,
If someone had told me in 1993 that the store would be still be open in 2014, then I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Sadly, the wonderful run of over 20 years we have had will soon be coming to a close.
I've been informed by our Landlord that another tenant will be relocating to our space. After evaluating all of my options, I have made the most difficult decision that closing the store is the most practical. While I don't know the exact date we will close, it will be very soon.
I would love to hear from you about what CD Source has meant to you, the great music you've experienced because of our store, and any memories you wish to share. Please either email us or post on our Facebook page. We will be running specials and discounts, having in-store performances, and a few other things to offer you a chance to come and say good-bye to our store and staff.
Thank you so much for your support over the years! You will be missed.
Lance Price
