Get Down.
Ever been so mad at somebody you yelled “Eat a bag of dicks!” at them? No? Maybe it's just us, then.
Let us just tell you, though: People usually get pretty pissed when you yell that. Not half as pissed, though, as these parents, whose kids were sold actual bags of gummy dicks to eat.
Go figure.
That said, let's all try to keep our tempers in check tonight. From the looks of things, there's going to be lots of you out tonight — especially in Deep Ellum where, among other things, we'll be throwing our Red Bull Sound Select show at Trees. — Cory Graves
Red Bull Sound Select Presents: Isaiah Rashad at Trees
Tonight, we're going to be taking over Trees in Deep Ellum to throw a Sound Select bash featuring the TDE-aligned, 2014 XXL Freshman Class-approved Isaiah Rashad in his first-ever headlining show in town. Since the January release of Rashad's Cilvia Demo, the Tennessee-based rapper's fully established himself as one of hip-hop's fastest-rising entities thanks to a deliberate flow and a penchant for trippy beats. So, yeah, we're excited to have him. And we'll be surrounding him with some serious local talent, too. Joining Rashad on this bill will be longtime Central Track favorites Buffalo Black, The Outfit, TX and Blue, The Misfit. In other words? It will be a party. — Pete Freedman
Shinyribs at Gas Monkey Bar and Grill
According to Kevin Russell, there was a point somewhere around the mid-'90s when the focus of his band The Gourds began a steady shift away from creativity and towards how they could best feed their families. Fortunately for Russell, though, this has just helped him experience a renewed burst of musical freedom through his new Shinyribs project in recent years. — Cory Graves
Maz Jobrani at Addison Improv
Tired of not laughing your face off until it hurts so good? Well, say hello to Maz Jobrani, an Iranian comedian who you might recognize from the Friday movies. He'll be here all weekend making you laugh so hard your cat will hurt. — CW
The Terminator at Texas Theatre
Come with us if you want to see a good movie. Especially when there's another Terminator in the works starring Ahnuld himself. See the original how it was meant to be seen — in 35mm. — Chase Whale
AT&T Patio Sessions w/ Salim Nourallah, Chris Holt at Sammons Park (Free)
Even at its new later time — that'd be 6:30 for those of you keeping track at home — you'll still have time to catch free acoustic performances from longtime Dallas singer-songwriters Salim Nourallah and Chris Holt on the AT&T Performing Arts Center's lawn, grab a bite off a nearby food truck and still make it out of there in time to catch another event or two later this evening. — CG
Alex & Sierra at House of Blues
Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton — otherwise known as boyfriend-girlfriend pop act Alex & Sierra — are most known for winning the third, and final, season of Simon Cowell's American Idol followup The X Factor. Despite doubts by judge Demi Lovato that the couple's offstage relationship would stand the test of time, the pair are still together a year later. They're set to do a bunch of hokey covers at this all ages show, too. — CG
Rhett Miller's Birthday Party at Twilite Lounge
Rhett Miller's actual birthday might have fallen a few days back, but that's not going to stop all his buddies in Dallas from throwing the now-even-older 97 a party tonight at Twilite Lounge. Oh, and just because recent Miller tourmate/collaborator/Twilite bartender Madison King might be booked as the evening's official entertainment, that shouldn't stop you from personally offering Miller a “Happy Birthday, Don't Die” at some point tonight. — CG
Dallas Burlesque Alliance Showcase 2 at Three Links
Missed Dallas Burlesque Alliance Showcase 1? It's OK, there's a Part 2 coming, we hear. Tonight, some of the best and most innovative burlesque dancers will be doing their thing at Three Links. It's a fitting locale, too, as one of the DBA's stated missions is to combat the misconception that the beautiful art of burlesque is at all as seedy as going to a strip club. — CW
State of the Arts at Dallas Museum of Art
KERA host and producer Jeff Whittington has partnered up with Art & Seek for an insightful Q&A on arts in culture in and around Dallas. Tonight's creatives and guests: Arthur Peña, founder of VICE PALACE and WARE:WOLF:HAUS; Devon Nowlin, founding member of Homecoming Committee; and our own Darryl Ratcliff, who is also the founder of Creating Our Future and a community engagement associate with SMU's National Center for Arts Research and Initiative. — CW
Love Inks at Rubber Gloves
Looks like Red Bull ain't the only ones that know how to put on super cheap shows. Like our Trees show tonight, this tour kickoff show for Austin pop act Love Inks will also cost just $3 to attend. — CG
“Sour Grapes” (Opening Reception) at Kettle Art
Members of the Oak Cliff-based Sour Grapes crew (read: Arturo, Carlos and Miguel Donjuan) celebrate the opening of their new group show at Deep Ellum's Kettle Art gallery that'll run through Saturday, September 27. Here's something you won't see at the gallery though — a behind-the-scenes video of the creation of the large mural on display at this show. — CG
Joey Fatts at The Prophet Bar
In the past year, Joey Fatts has gone from a street-hardened gangbanger living in his car to being one of the most-talked-about young rappers and producers going. Aside from featuring production from transplant Dallas producer Cardo, Fatts' recently released Chipper Jones Vol. 3 EP finds the emcee coming to grips with his new lifestyle and blending rhymes full of vivid street imagery with a newer appreciation for the finer things. Aston Matthews also performs. — CG
Remezcla's Cultura Dura Party at The Travis
After all the other killer shows going down to night come to a close, here's where you should head for last call. Rather than just another edition of DJ Sober's regular Big Bang! offerings on Thursday, this one's sponsored by the folks behind one of the more interesting Latin culture-focused publications in the country. Also, it's sponsored by Mike's Hard Lemonade. Hit up the above link to RSVP. Then ice all of your friends. Wait, sorry, wrong too-sugary adult beverage. — PF
