A Third Alamo Drafthouse Is Coming, This One In Irving’s New $165 Million Entertainment Complex
Just a little more than a month removed from the announcement that it would be opening its second North Texas location with a new theater in the close-to-Downtown Dallas neighborhood of The Cedars, the Alamo Drafthouse team this afternoon dropped another bomb on area moviegoers: The revered chain will be opening a third location in North Texas in the near future.
This one will be coming as part of the massive $165 million Music Factory complex that’s set to be developed in Las Colinas.
Says Bill DiGaetano, COO of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema DFW group that first brought the chain to North Texas with a Richardson location in August of last year, of the potential of this newest space: “Co-tenants like the 8,000-seat amphitheater, extraordinary restaurants, the bowling center, and other entertainment venues give us opportunities to create incredible events for our guests at the theater or with a neighboring venue.”
While The Cedars’ Alamo is set to open around this time next summer, there’s no word yet on an opening date for this Irving spot. Rest assured, though: The entire complex is a ways off: Ground-breaking on the Music Factory development won’t even be set into motion until this Saturday, August 30, when a celebration at the spot’s future home at 500 West Las Colinas Boulevard will go down complete with food trucks and a performance featuring members of Dashboard Confessional and The Apples in Stereo (which, we’re just guessing here, means Dallas-based Dashboard guitarist John Lefler and Dallas-based Apples drummer John Dufilho). Fittingly, the Alamo crew will be joining in on the fun, too, showing a special, free outdoor screening of Raiders of The Lost Ark after the sun goes down.
Expect some “over-the-top” antics, DiGaetano says of this and future events of the Alamo’s location here. Of course, if the ridiculous renderings provided by the Alamo and posted below for your perusal are any indication, that’s a given.
