Need A Break From Booze and Coffee? Try These Refreshing Drink Options.
Listen, we all get thirsty.
But with all of the cocktail and coffee coverage in the city — and, let's be real, the coverage right here on this site, too — the region's many delicious, non-alcoholic and non-coffee drink options often get lost in the mix.
And that's a shame, too, because it's these drinks that are typically the most refreshing. So, Seeing as how these types of drinks don't always get their due, we thought we'd showcase some of our favorites here and fill you in on where to find them.
Check 'em out.
Snap Kitchen. This newly opened edition of the Austin-based chain has a line of cold-press juices that are balanced to be both flavorful and nutritional. With flavors such as Spicy Basil Lemonade (made with a pinch of cayenne pepper) or the Far East Turmeric Elixir (made with pineapple and apple juices, fresh turmeric root, Thai basil and jicama), you’re guaranteed to find unique and refreshing flavors with a health boost.
Green Grocer. Inside of this friendly, neighborhood market that focuses on locally produced goods is a dedicated juice bar. Here, customers have the option to choose their own ingredients from a variety of fruits and vegetables, or to choose from a menu of healthy pairings such as the Fountain of Youth, made with orange, pineapple, lemon, lime, mint and grapefruit. You can also choose from selection of pre-made cold-press juices if you’re on the go.
Cafe Silva. Cafe Silva’s jasmine lychee green tea is the perfect remedy for people looking for a little more than the standard iced tea. Here, freshly brewed jasmine green tea is mixed with lychees and a light simple syrup for an Asian-inspired summer drink. Full lychees are used in the tea for added flavor for anyone who has never tried the strange fruit before.
La Me. Tucked away in a shopping complex where Dallas meets Richardson is La Me, a traditional Vietnamese restaurant where you can find a drink that almost borders on the dessert side of things. The three-colored pudding — made with coconut milk, jelly, ice, red and green beans — is a unique taste experience, to be sure. The colorful layered drink changes flavor and texture throughout the drinking process, taking your taste buds on an adventure outside of the norm.
Bobaddiction. This traveling drink purveyor provides a variety of milk-based teas in flavors such as the honeydew, taro, jasmine, Thai and classic (which is made with black tea). The truck also features a selection of fruit-based drinks and shaved snow.
Green Spot. In what’s probably one of the most healthy gas stations around, you’ll find various flavors of Holy Kombucha on tap. Just be sure to get it while you can, as it’s a popular selection here and the taps tend to run dry early.
