It Looks Like Venerable Deep Ellum Bar July Alley Shut Its Doors For Good Last Night.
Sad news on the Deep Ellum bar front this afternoon.
Less than a week after the neighborhood welcomed its newest watering hole, many July Alley regulars haven take to the Elm Street dive bar's Facebook page this afternoon to leave messages regarding last night's apparent closing.
We've yet to confirm the reason behind the sudden closing — attempts to call anyone at the bar shows that the spot's listed number has been disconnected — but there are at least a handful of folks on the Facebook page claiming that it has something to do with unpaid taxes.
For now, that theory is little more than hearsay, although the bar was temporarily shuttered for tax-related purposes back in May of 2011.
Again: There's no indication whether this is the last we've seen of the longtime Deep Ellum staple or if, like it did in 2011, the joint will once again rise from the ashes.
Better stay tuned for updates, then.
Update: We're getting conflicting reports now. Mainly: It seems as if the bar is still open at the moment. Still, sources tell us that they hear the bar plans on closing in the coming days.
Meanwhile, our attempts to reach anyone at the bar and get a concrete answer on the matter have yet to prove fruitful.
Anyway, we'll keep you posted on what we hear.
