No One Likes The Denton Four-Piece, Turns Out.

Last we checked in with Denton's Chambers, the atmospheric indie outfit was giving us a taste of its upcoming LP — and debut for Kansas City label The Record Machine — via its lead single and title track, “Inner Room.”

At that time, we had the following impression of the track: “With its lush, delicate instrumentation, it's far from a gutless offering; rather, it's the ballsiest track we've yet heard from the four-piece mood-rock band.”

But anyone can make a good first impression — and, in retrospect, it appears we were way off base.

I mean, we must have been. That's the only way to explain the backlash of negative reviews the album has gotten from some its closest allies of late.

First, there was Seryn, whose members blasted the disc's fidelity, quipping that Inner Room sounds like it was “recorded on a typewriter” before adding that Chambers is “…just a bunch of middle-class white kids with dreams that'll never happen.”

Not long after that, Denton luminaries Midlake came along, echoing many of those same sentiments, adding that the album “sounds like it was recorded on a Fisher-Price tape recorder.”

Then, just this morning, Air Review took its criticisms of the band to a personal level. In the newest “Hates Chambers” video, Air Review calls the band it so frequently shares bills with “…just an ugly version of Seryn.”

None of this should come as a surprise, of course. Musicians tend to be each other's harshest critics, often coming up with the best insults about their peers.

All kidding aside, though, Chambers' new LP will earn its release June 10. If you still even want it, that is.

And if you do, you'll probably want to hear that sucker before parting with your hard-earned dollars. You'll have a chance to do so at the band's special early release show this Friday, June 6, at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton.
