Take Dat Witchu.
Thanks to two late-period goals from the Anaheim Ducks, the Dallas Stars' season came to its end in a rather heartbreaking fashion last night. It was a hell of a year from the young crop of stars, to be sure.
That said, the team's players, personnel and die-hard fans now have a lot of free time on their hands between tonight and October.
These events are just the start of what the team has in store in the offseason.
Daley at Trees (Sold Out)
Like Rick Astley before him, the pipes of British R&B and soul singer Daley probably aren't quite what you'd expect to be coming out of the lanky young ginger kid. Close your eyes, though, and you'll agree that this guy's the real deal. — Cory Graves
Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs at American Airlines Center
Thanks to a last-second miracle three-pointer from Vince Carter in this past Saturday's contest between these two teams, the Dallas Mavericks now lead their in-state rivals two games to one in this opening round playoff series. — CG
Holy Wave at Three Links
There's no question that Austin is the birthplace of psych-rock, and that it remains genre's cultural nexus to this day. And though El Paso's Holy Wave didn't originate in Austin, they moved there as fast as they could. Since then, they've become just about the best psych-rock outfit in a town full of the world's best psych-rock outfits. Locals War Party and Mercury Rocket open. — CG
Dan Croll at House of Blues
Liverpudlian and graduate of Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Daniel Francis Croll combines Paul Simon-like singer-songwriter fare with elements of world music and electronic instruments sprinkled in for good measure. That is to say, he comes highly recommended for fans of Vampire Weekend and Grizzly Bear. — CG
Demonic Chronic 48-Hour Film Race Screenings at Texas Theatre
While everybody else was busy getting high this past 4/20, eight teams of filmmakers were busy getting high and making short films, the results of which will be screened tonight out in the Cliff. Regardless of genre, each film shown tonight will involve a pizza guy, a condom, a character that says, “It's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick” and lots of very stoned actors. — CG
