Good Records Announces Its Record Store Day Lineup, and Rhett Miller Curses A Lot.

Attention Dallas area club owners, concert promoters, and/or those with more cash to spend on their upcoming private parties than they currently know what to do with: Do not book Lil Boosie to perform at your events.

The recently-released-from-prison rhymesmith recently told TMZ that he hasn't yet given anyone permission to book him.

But that hasn't stopped a still-on-the-lam scammer posing as the rapper's brother TQ from tricking a pair of Dallas bookers, as well as a third in Detroit, out of $25,000 each for fake bookings.

A better option? Try and get the Old 97's. That band is white-hot right now. Somehow, nearly 20 years after releasing its debut album, Hitchhike to Rhome, the world is still excited by the proposition of a new Old 97's record. Earlier this week, The New Yorker even went as far as to hail the band's upcoming Most Messed Up LP as “genius.” The band's frontman, Rhett Miller, also sat down with that publication to discuss the disc's second single, “Nashville,” which the magazine also debuted on its site.

And if you have it in you to sit through Miller discussing the merits of the Biblical flood with a fake Russell Crowe, you can also hear a few live versions of other new MMU cuts, including a choice cut called “Let's Get Drunk and Get it On,” via this week's episode of the Comedy Bang Bang podcast.

Oh, and if all that weren't enough, the band kicked off its busy week with a special performance at the 50th birthday party for Rainn Wilson's wife — aboard a boat, no less.

Of course, there are several other local releases also coming up on the horizon. Jon Dufilho's new Cliffs of Insanity just wrapped up recording its debut at Casey Di Iorio's Valve Studios. Speaking of that studio: These Machines Are Winning recently finished its sophomore effort at the studio. Meanwhile, Di Iorio also tells White Noise that he's been working on a new batch of tunes along with ex-Valve bassist Tony Gattone and Beau Wagener of Macavity.

Also? Denton Americana outfit The Holler Time will release their latest record April 12. And Kaela Sinclair, whose Sun & Mirror was released locally back in September, will re-release that album nationally on May 13 — or so says Paste.

Speaking of Denton: The city's music scene earned yet another nod from a national publication this week when Huffington Post named the city on of Texas' “Eight Emerging Cultural Hot Spots.” While the impetus for that article was to call out places to check out in lieu of heading to SXSW in future years — a sentiment we're totally on board with, by the way — Fort Worth trio Oil Boom, for one, is certainly glad it made the trip down to Austin this year. Thanks to its recent SXSW set, the band earned a spot on NPR's list of “Ten SXSW Discoveries Public Radio Stations Can't Stop Playing.”

America has also recently discovered the duo Dawn & Hawkes thanks to their addition to Adam Levine's team on the current season of The Voice. That group includes former UNT student — and onetime member of Denton band Redtag — Chris Hawkes on guitar and vocals. The most notable part of the duo's performance on this week's episode of the show, though, was the fact that their rendition of “Stuck in the Middle” was the first time Shakira has ever heard the song. Check it out below.

Elsewhere: Good Records just announced the lineup to this year's Record Store Day, which will be celebrated April 19th. The big gets are a Midlake acoustic set and Stardeath and White Dwarfs, who plan on covering David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album in its entirety. Other performers include the aforementioned Kaela Sinclar and Oil Boom, as well as Foxtrot Uniform, Madison King, Ice Eater, Son of Stan, Dovetail, Air Review, Buffalo Black, Nervous Curtains, Pinkish Black and Wire Nest, plus DJ sets from Wanz Dover, Steven Barnett of Baboon, Ken Bethea of Old 97's and Taz Bentley.

Finally, a pair of new local bands will make their live debuts at Double Wide this week. Triple Lutz, who we told you about last week, performs this Thursday at the venue. The next night, Blood of Saints will appear. That band features Descender's Casey Hess, former Dead Twins frontman Gabe Cardinale, and ex-The Boom Boom Box drummer Clay Stinnett.
