The Marked Men at Rubber Gloves
The seminal Denton punk outfit founded by Mark Ryan, Jeff Burke, Mike Throneberry and Joe Ayoub is often credited as starting the whole lo-fi punk trend that remains so prevalent in the region today. If nothing else, the Marked Men are certainly the band that bridged the gap between Denton and Dirtnap Records, the Portland-based label that's release so many of these bands' albums. Superbad at Sundown (Free)
Superbad was certainly one of the awkwardly super-badass movies of the late 2000s. Sure, it was full of raunchy, childish humor, but that's because Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg wrote the thing when they were 13. Catch a free screening of the flick on Sundown's rooftop patio. Nothing More at Trees
San Antonio's Nothing More recently signed a five-album, guaranteed contract with Eleven Seven Music, home to a slew of similarly indistinguishable, radio-ready hard rockers like Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Motley Crue and Drowning Pool. Sleep Wave, Moving Atlas and In Memory of Man open. — CG
Christian Lee Hutson and Daniel Markham at Twilite Lounge (Free)
Up-and-coming Nashville singer-songwriter Hutson is an old soul, which we mean in the best way possible. His heartbreaking catalog is deeply rooted in that time period when country musicians sang about whiskey so often because they were lonesome or had just had their guts wrenched out by a love interest — y'know, as opposed to the “let's get drunk and party on our tailgates” mentality so prevalent in today's bro country movement. Amber Farris at Vagabond (Free)
In recent months, this Lower Greenville space once occupied by J. Pepe's has been transformed into a low-key bar, thanks in part to members of The Flatlanders. If you haven't been to play bocce ball on the spot where the previous tenant's famous pool once stood, you might do so tonight. And, if you do, you'll also have the opportunity to catch a solo set from dynamic Somebody's Darling's frontwoman Amber Farris. — CG
Improv Jam Session at Dallas Comedy House (Free)
Have no idea what improv is? That's OK; they're making it up as they go, too. But seriously folks: This jam session is free to watch and free to engage in, so there's no pressure to be on stage.
