Scenes From Last Night's Com Truise Show at Dada.
Last night's show at Dada was all about moods — from the music to the lighting.
Makes sense: Headliner Com Truise has long made a name for itself in this regard. Seth Haley's music is thick like Giorgio Moroder's synth work as filtered through the RoboCop soundtrack. But, live, things are kicked up to another level entirely, as Haley performs his tracks from behind a pentagon-shaped light box that takes the lighting away from him and shines it onto his crowd.
The aim of that lighting set-up, it seemed, was to take the figurative spotlight off of Haley. Weird, then, that, after the show, Haley took the time to hang with his fans, pose for pictures and sign merch. Actually, check that: It wasn't weird; it was awesome. The poor guy couldn't even finish his drink, he was so inundated with fan support in the wake of his performance.
That support would weave throughout the entire night, actually. Fort Worth favorite Ronnie Heart opened the show, showered in psychedelic projections and pulling off some cool dance moves mid-performance, looking like the second coming of Prince. The touring support act, DJ duo Phantoms, took the mantle from there, their gear propped up on lightboxes of their own. And they kept people dancing, too, with their set climaxing with an especially kickass remix of Tame Impala's “Elephant.”
All night long, the fans were dancing at this one. Not a bad Tuesday night at all.
