With so many folks trying drastic diet changes — going gluten-free, joining the paleo craze and the lik –, it's refreshing to read about people like this guy every once in a while.
The man in question, a 38-year-old Maryland resident named Dan Janssen, has eaten nothing but pizza for the last 25 years. And according to the rail-thin, professional worker's doctors, he's perfectly healthy, too.
While we can't guarantee that the all-pizza-all-the-time diet will have quite the same effects for you, it's still probably safe to assume grabbing a slice or two when you're out tonight isn't exactly going to kill you either.
And, unlike Janseen's food intake, there's quite the variety of options from which to choose tonight.
Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings at Granada Theater
This past June, we received a somewhat troublesome press release that said Sharon Jones would not be releasing her Give the People What They Want album as planned for August. Furthermore, the release said, all 2013 tour dates would be cancelled. The 56-year-old Jones, it later came out, had not only been diagnosed with cancer, but given a 10 percent chance of survival. Just last month, though, Jones took to Twitter to let the world know that she'd beaten the odds and is now completely cancer-free. With a new lease on life, you can bet that Jones' spitfire persona will be more jubilant than ever. Also worth noting: The Dap-Kings are spinning a set at Good Records before the show. — Cory Graves
The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band at Gas Monkey Bar & Grill
It's easy to dig yourself into a pretty hokey and cliched hole when your overalls-clad, throwback-style string band relies on washboards in lieu of standard percussion. Fortunately, Reverend Peyton's immaculate and largely underrated guitar work helps the band dig out of that hole on a nightly basis. — Cory Graves
Dallas Stars versus Carolina Hurricanes at American Airlines Center
The scene at the AAC for tonight's Stars-Hurricanes matchup certainly has the potential to be somewhat bittersweet. Sure, it's pretty awesome that hockey's finally back after the long Olympic break. But it's also pretty killer that the Stars boast two medal winners — Jamie Benn's Team Canada and Kari Lehtonen's Team Finland took home gold and bronze medals, respectively. The fact that Benn scored the lone goal that put Team USA out of medal contention, though, still stings. — CG
Microcine Movie Club at Texas Theatre
The theater's Show Your Shorts series and the growing popularity of the found footage movement intersect at this debut edition of the new Microcine Movie Club nights. Got a Super 8mm, 8mm or 16mm home movie, public domain film or educational documentary you want to show? They'll have the equipment on hand to screen those suckers upstairs tonight. — Cory Graves
Love, Death + the Desert at Kettle Art
The name for this three-man show comes from the different views on the subjects at hand, as explored by locals Brian Crawford, Justin Clumpner and Brad Albright. The Desert portion, in particular, describes Albright's Texas Gothic series of pulp Western illustrations that the artist says are best enjoyed while wearing old-school red/blue 3D glasses. — Cory Graves
Women's Re-Igniting Spring Launch at Traffic LA
The fashion-forward boutique located at the Joule Hotel with all the edgy Boho-chic appeal of Los Angeles launches its Spring 2014 collection tonight. A few of the designers that'll be represented tonight include Paul Smith and Pierre Balmain. Oh and 10 percent of the proceeds from tonight's sales will help the Dallas Contemporary. — Porschia Paxton
Luxury Hour at Luxury on Lovers
This ladies-only event will feature spa items, product samples, demos, product discounts and tons of other goodies, as well as a jewelry trunk show from local designer Deborah Gaspar. Show up early, though, because the first 75 guests will also walk away with free gift bags. — PP
When Dallas Rocked at Lakewood Theater
In his recent documentary, former Buddy magazine editor Kirby Warnock makes a case that, in the '70s, Dallas was considered the music hub of the entire southwest. Check out the trailer, which immediately comes out of the gate questioning Austin's self-proclaimed status as “the live music capitol of the world,” right here. — CG
