We all have a few moments we'd like to forget. But, unfortunately, life has a way of digging up our worst blunders and rubbing them in our faces, forever reminding us that we're not quite as cool as we sometimes like to think.
Most of us are lucky, though. Our missteps aren't broadcasted publicly for all to see.
The same, however, can't be said for Marvel Comics, whose collection of ill-conceived and unbelievably embarrassing comics published over the years is the subject of this bit of internet ribbing.
Mistakes aren't all bad, though. Hey, if it wasn't for Marvel's willingness to go out on a limb every once in a while, we wouldn't have 48 pages of a time-traveling, monster-fighting Billy Ray Cyrus to enjoy.
That said, we can't necessarily blame you for wanting to go out and make a few “mistakes” of your own tonight.
We can, however, promise not to tape anything you may happen to say or do for broadcast on our YouTube channel.
Darkside at Dada
Darkside is the joint effort of psychedelic guitarist Dave Harrington and electronic producer Nicolas Jaar. While 2013's Psychic found its way onto many an entity's year-end “best of” lists, the duo's live performances are heavily steeped in improvisations that often lead into songs stretching 10 to 15 minutes past the recorded versions' runtimes. That much is probably to be expected, though, given the meandering nature of both the psychedelic and electronic genres. In any case, it's earned the band a reputation of being a jam band from outer space. — Cory Graves
Ray Wylie Hubbard at Dan's Silverleaf
Oklahoma country artist/legend (and one-time Oak Cliff resident) Ray Wylie Hubbard is going to be at Dan's tonight, doing what he does best, making everyone swoon to his country guitar strums and bluesy vocals. And he might even do a song or two about his old hometown. — Trace McCaslin
The Texas Gentlemen at The Dram (Free)
Dallas' version of The Band — the pack of locals that serves as live backing bands for the likes of Larry g(EE), Kirby Brown and, in part, Dovetail — will perform on their own this evening at Knox/Henderson watering hole The Dram, which has spiced up its calendar with a whole slew of respected local bands that are scheduled to perform at the joint for, at least, the next few months. — CG
Sam Anderson, Ryan Thomas Becker and Erik Lee Thompson at Fred's Cafe (Free)
Quaker City Night Hawks frontman Sam Anderson, RTB2's Ryan Thomas Becker, and Lo-Fi Chorus centerpiece Erik Lee Thompson will be swappin' songs this evening on Fred's now-fully-enclosed patio out in the Fort. And, don't worry, nobody will judge if you have to eat your burger with a fork. — CG
The Happy Bullets and The Fox & The Bird at Common Table (Free)
With their powers combined, these two not-all-that-similar Dallas acts boast two trumpets, a trombone, an accordion, a melodica, and even a musical saw between them. Tonight, they'll use their combined forces to tackle Nuetral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in full. Whether this makes you even more excited to see the real thing in a couple weeks — or just mildly satiated in the event that you didn't happen to snag tickets before that show sold out — it'll probably be a lot more fun if you opt to sing along. — CG
