In The Evening, It's Girls.
If you get the urge to quench your thirst with a beer tonight, just remember that you should probably purchase it yourself. No matter how bad the craving, there's no excuse to ever get the cops involved.
Unfortunately, one Memphis grandmother found this out the hard way last week when she was arrested for misusing the 911 system and trying to get a police officer to bring her the goods.
Surely, we don't have to tell you how needless that call was. I mean, there are like a million places to score some booze tonight.
Here are but a few.
Girls Season Three Premiere at Granada Theater
An exchange between Adam Driver and Lena Dunham in the trailer for the upcoming third season of HBO's Girls pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the series. No, you may not care about Hannah Horvath or her trio of vapid, selfish, mostly unsuccessful pals. But, like Dunham says in the clip, that's not really the point. Anyway, Season Three kicks off next Sunday night, but you can get the jump on all that tonight at the Granada by screening a pair of the newest episodes. The thing's free to attend, although an RSVP here is required. — Cory Graves
Scaraoke at Double Wide
Mr. Rid has been hosting Scaraoke across Dallas longer than most of y'all have been legally able to drink. To wit: Name another karaoke night where one can be berated for singing too mainstream a Replacements track. — Pete Freedman
Badass Jazz at Amsterdam Bar
While Monday is typically a slow night for most bars, it remains one of the Amsterdam's busiest. That much can be credited to local sax wizard Shelly Carrol and his crop of old-school jazz cronies. Just because there's no cover charge doesn't mean this isn't the best jazz event in town. Don't believe us? Carrol proves as much on a weekly basis. — CG
Sugarfoote and Co. at Adair's
The beer-swilling, good-timing country and folk tunes Cody Foote and his pals crank out during their Monday night residency has been a longtime favorite of Deep Ellumites and service industry folks alike. Hell, after a couple $8 pitchers and a famous Adair's burger, even the strictest nine-to-fivers might even think about calling in and taking off Tuesday morning. — CG
