Before heading out this evening — especially if you plan on drinking — it's probably best to ask yourself a couple of questions.
A couple suggestions in this regard: “Am I currently on the clock?” and “Do I tend to do make awful decisions when I've knocked a few back?”
Asking himself either one of those probably would have not only saved one Alaskan State Trooper his job, but kept him out of jail, too. Instead, officer Leon Outwater threw caution to the wind, got blackout drunk on the job and sent sexually charged text messages to a 12-year-old — from his government-issued company phone, no less.
We know that workdays can often feel never-ending the closer we get to Christmas, but try to rest easy today knowing that there'll be plenty to do once you do clock out.
Just try to lay off the hooch until then, OK?
Mike Scaccia Remembrance Show at Three Links
It's hard to believe it's been a year since the untimely passing of legendary Dallas metal guitarist Mike Scaccia. Alas, it was exactly a year ago today that the industry pioneer “died with his boots on,” as they say in the biz, following an onstage collapse at Fort Worth's Rail Club while performing with his band Rigor Mortis. At tonight's free show, heavy outfits and Scaccia pals Hint Of Death, Rabid Flesh Eaters and Maleficus will all perform. — Cory Graves

The Denton joint's new ownership is throwing a customer appreciation/holiday party tonight that'll feature a DJ Yeahdef-helmed dance party and sets by country cover act The Coleman Gully Band. While Yeahdef offerings are anything but a rare occurrence at the venue these days, know this: Tonight's offer also includes free domestic draughts. — CG
Japanese Whiskey and Ramen at Libertine Bar
Barkeeps Mate Hartai and Omar Yeefoon will host a celebration of Japanese whiskey at The Libertine tonight, where Hartai serves as bar manager. Joining them will be pop-up ramen restaurant specialist and Driftwood sous chef Justin Holt, who'll be cooking up dishes to go with the bartenders' specialty cocktails. Cocktails will run between $10 and $30, and a bowl of Holt's ramen will cost diners $12. — Porttia Portis
