Lay It On Thicke.
So, we just learned that something called “Cyber Monday” is happening today, although, turns out, the manufactured holiday actually has to do with online shopping and not, well, what it may sound like it's all about at first.
Hey, nonsexual though it may be, at least blood-filled Walmart riots aren't part of the day's equation.
Anyway, when you're through snagging a deal on electronics (or, y'know, doing that other thing), you should probably think about heading out into the real world and spending some time with some real humans.
Fortunately, there are a number of places that'll be more than happy to host your offline exploits tonight.
Cool Out at Crown and Harp
For coming up on two years now, Nate Donmoyer has called Dallas home. He just hasn't always been here throughout that stretch is all, given his old “day job.” Still, when the former Passion Pit drummer wasn't out touring the world, the formerly Boston- and New Orleans-based producer managed to make something of a strong name for himself around these parts. In addition to popping up on various DJ bills at loft parties and clubs like The Crown and Harp — where he'll be Tony Schwa's guest at Cool Out tonight — he's also recently set up shop in a new, East Dallas studio space where he's working on collaborations with such notable names as Spank Rock and Major Lazer. — Pete Freedman
Kiss FM Jingle Ball at American Airlines Center
Prior to 2013, Robin Thicke's legacy predominantly revolved around being the son of the dad from Growing Pains. But a lot can change in a year. In the past few months, his notoriety has skyrocketed, meaning a quarter-century from now he'll either be remembered as that white “soul” singer that ripped four songs off from Marvin Gaye or the awkward referee that happened to be standing onstage with Miley Cyrus while she was so famously infuriating the inventor of the foam finger. Tonight, he tops this radio-sponsored bill that also includes performances from Pitbull, Grand Prairie's own Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Austin Mahone, Flo Rida, Enrique Iglesias, Jason Derulo, Fifth Harmony, OneRepublic and Denison's own SoMo. — Cory Graves
Finntroll at Trees
Has anyone booked more international acts this year than Trees? Sure, they've pretty much all been metal acts from one subgenre or another, but that makes the feat no less impressive. It's a trend the venue will continue tonight with the Swedish-speaking Finnish black metal outfit Finntroll, a band most notable for combining elements of old world Finnish hoedown music into its heavy sound. Blackguard, Metsatoll, Asylum and Beneath the Order open. — CG
One-Year Anniversary at Bowl and Barrel
The luxury dining and bowling hybrid celebrates its successful first year tonight with Franconia draughts, barrel-aged Manhattans and hot dogs offered at a buck apiece. Oh, and there'll be birthday cake too, of course. — CG
