A.Dd+ Goes National and Vulgar Fashion Heads North.
For the past couple of years, A.Dd+ has risen from being viewed as the presumed next-generation torchbearers of Dallas hip-hop to becoming its most dominating force, spearheading a movement that's finally starting to gain some notice from outside the region.
And since the duo released its long-anticipated DiveHiFlyLo mixtape back in January, the duo has consistently been the most buzzed-about act in the region. Period.
Now, with today's revamped national release of DiveHieFlyLo: Every Man is King, it won't be long, we reckon, before the names Paris Pershun and Slim Gravy carry as much weight outside of North Texas as they do around these parts.
The re-release contains five new tracks (“Every Man is King,” “Drive Safely,” “Dirty Cotton Candy,” “Break Bread,” and “Where You Been”), which completist owners of the locals-only edition can grab for free right here. A formal release-type show — and we do mean formal, as Slim tells us that he hopes attendees will heed his request to dress in their finest for the affair — will be held at West End Event Center on Friday, November 29.
Speaking of a little national shine: The Denton electro-weirdos in Vulgar Fashion released a video for their song “Golden Showers” yesterday which, thankfully, doesn't feature any actual footage of that questionable act. Check it out:
That clip was quickly posted by the well-known New York-based music blog Brooklyn Vegan yesterday afternoon. And good timing, too: This Saturday, the duo will head to that blog's neck of the woods for a show at Brooklyn's Glasslands Gallery on a bill that features Ejecta and Future Punx. Both of those acts, we should note, contain former Denton musicians who've also spent time in acts such as Neon Indian, Fergus and Geronimo and Teenage Cool Kids.
While we're on the subject of tours: We recently mentioned TEAM*'s upcoming supporting slot on the December leg of the Third Eye Blind tour. During that tour — on the December 3 stop here in Dallas, to be precise — the pop-rock outfit comprised members from the more mall-punk-inclined Forever The Sickest Kids will also release its debut EP. Parties interested in hearing that EP before anybody else need only to cough up a buck to the band's Indiegogo campaign.
And, to update another past White Noise item, we've recently learned some of the items that will be auctioned and/or raffled off at this Friday's Nevada Hill cancer benefit show at Rubber Gloves. Among them: a collage by Polyphonic Spree and Tripping Daisy mastermind Tim DeLaughter; a painting by Andy Murray, a hand drawing by The Bird Machine; signed items from Gang of Four, Butthole Surfers, Lightning Bolt, Mission of Burma, The Jesus Lizard, The New Year and comedian Paul Scheer, among others; and a boatload of rare concert posters.
But the coolest silent auction item of all available at this show? That, most certainly, will be a Flaming Lips “Fuck You Frog,” of which there are only 20 in existence. The rest will be sold for $200 apiece on Record Store Day. The plastic frog contains a recording device that can be used to record your own personalized messages. Or, as the toy's packaging describes the piece, it's “a playful audio memo recorder you can use to tell people the stuff you are too chicken shit to say to their face! Now with pitch change capabilities!” The toy comes housed in a box that also contains some pee-flavored candy (!) and a 7-inch version of the Lips' second cassette tape demo.
Moving on, Denton's Caleb Ian Campbell has a new project called Moonbather that'll be appearing at Spune's annual Christmas show next month at Dan's Silverleaf. The band recently had some of its early demos featured on the UK blog This Fake DIY.
Also worth noting: Buddy Magazine editor Kirby Warnock's When Dallas Rocked documentary will get a second screening a month from today at the Kessler Theater.
