Bow Before The Trap Lord.

After so many months of build up and unrelated ancillary art events, Dallas will finally lead the nation this week in commemorating the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination on Elm Street.

Was it a historic event that happened in Dallas and significantly changed many aspects of the country? Absolutely. But that doesn't discount the fact that, somehow, over the course of the last few decades, the city has gone from trying to distance itself from the fact that a president was killed here and from the “City of Hate” nickname that plagued us for years to almost embracing it.

To that end, the city's planned events this Friday in Dealey Plaza have an almost morbid, celebratory feel to them.

It's not that you should forget about the events of November 22, 1963 as you go about your week. But Dallas as a whole would be best served putting on an air of reverence and, otherwise, treating the day with the proper level of respect.
