Scenes From Friday Night's Pop That Bash with Brenmar at the It'll Do Club.

When we caught up with Brenmar last week in advance of the Chicago-bred, New York-based DJ and producer's appearance as the special guest at our monthly Pop That affair, the man warned us outright: “We're going ham on Friday night.”

And, to be sure, following what we readily admit was a little bit of a slow start to the night, the late-arrivers to the It'll Do Club ended up doing just that: After our fellow Pop That sponsor DJ Sober opened the night with some help from his Top Notch Houston partner in crime, Dayta, and drew the night's revelers onto the East Dallas venue's light-up dancefloor with a variety of club-indebted remixes, Brenmar took to the decks in the It'll Do Club's DJ booth shortly after 12:30 in the morning looking more like an athlete than the lauded mixmaster he's known for being.

His movements were sharp and crisp. His stance was low and compact. His gaze was intense.

And his song selections? They were all over the map in the best possible way: The set started off heavily R&B-influenced before transitioning toward more of a house-tinged spell and, finally, being capped off with a largely hip-hop-focused finish that came well after last call.

It was a varied, impressive offering and an undoubtedly good time. Many thanks to all involved and to all who showed. Hopefully we'll see you all again next month as we bring the Mad Decent-signed, Philly-based DJ Sega to the setting, yeah? Cool.
