Chef Tim Love Promises To Rebuild, and Erykah Badu Talks Veganism.

Welcome to The Spread, our weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that's fit to print. Except that this is the Internet, so space isn't a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.

Chef Tim Love sure has a lot going on these days.

Remember that chicken-fried lobster dish of his? Yeah, it still exists.

Unfortunately, though, the celebrity chef has hit a bit of a rough patch of late. Yesterday morning, his Fort Worth-based restaurant, Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out in the kitchen. Luckily, the blaze was contained to the rear of the eatery, and Love has since Tweeted that the spot would be up and running as soon as possible. He eve threw in an inspiring Friday Night Lights quote for extra emphasis.

Speaking of Fort Worth: The California-inspired seafood spot Pacific Table, headed by The Tavern Bar & Grill chef Felipe Armenta, has officially opened its doors at University Park Village. According to the Fort Worth-Star Telegram, the restaurant will also serve up a few land-lover-friendly options, including prime rib. They've also got a wood-burning rotisserie set up on the patio.

Meanwhile, as Armenta aims at seafood domination, new tapas spot Sera Dining & Wine is focusing on creating small, shareable and seasonal plates and pairing them with fine wines. Sera is set to open up in the old Sapristi! location with former sous chef Brandon Hudson at the helm. Hudson most recently spent time working with the folks over at one of our favorite brunch spots in town, so we only expect great things from this French- and Spanish-inspired menu.

Honestly, it seems like the DFW culinary scene is just continuing to explode with new restaurants, all of which are desperately vying for our hungry attention.

Ah! So many restaurants! So little time!

Out in Dallas, the upscale-leaning CBD Provisions will open inside the Joule Hotel later this summer. In Denton, bar and grill Last Drop Tavern officially opened its doors just in time for the latest crop of hungry incoming UNT students. In Carrollton, Gangnam Sushi House (a reference to the region, not our generation's answer to the “Macarena”) brings a new brand of Japanese and Korean inspired dishes. And, in Uptown, Dee Lincoln Steak will soon open.

Meanwhile, Florida-based wing chain Hurricane Grill & Wings has added Dallas to its growing list of locations; Waxahachie's favorite Tex-Mex chain, Campuzano, is set to open up a location over on Oak Lawn; Company Cafe has moved into the old Mextopia spot just down the street from its old location on Lower Greenville; Village Kitchen (formerly Marquee Gill) re-opens tomorrow; and Zoli's NY Pizza Tavern just announced a $10 lunch menu.

In other food news: Global Street Feast kicks off an entire day global food celebration with live music in the Harwood District this Saturday. The festival will celebrate all things global and will even feature the worlds' largest samurai collection on display for any medieval Japanese history enthusiasts. There will even be informative tours and some activities that will hopefully have a large crowd in the LARPing spirit.

On the subject of festivals: Erykah Badu was recently announced as a keynote speaker for this years' Texas Veggie Fair, which will once again take place on October 20 at Reverchon Park. The revered Dallas musician will speak about her personal experiences as a vegan and spin a few records as festival DJ. The festival will also feature a number of live acts as well, including a performance by time-traveling songwriters Home By Hovercraft.

In this week's local beer news, Deep Ellum Brewing Company announced that it will be hosting its second annual Labor of Love Home Brew Competition on Sunday, September 1. The competition will feature some of Dallas' best home brewers competing in eight different categories accompanied by live music, food trucks and live artistic demonstrations.
