Take A Chance On The Riverboat Gamblers.
Back in 2006, blogger Charles Lavoie wrote that one could take any random cartoon from The New Yorker and replace the caption with the phrase “Christ, what an asshole!” without sacrificing any of the strip's comedic value.
Similarly, Lauren LoPrete has received a shit-ton of attention in recent weeks for her “This Charming Charlie” Tumblr, in which she repurposes old Peanuts strips and replaces the characters' dialogue with Morrissey lyrics. The results — which you can peruse here — are really quite funny. Y'know, in a tragically depressing kind of way.
If you, like Morrissey, are suffering from a case of the “Every Day is Like Sunday” doldrums, just try to remember you live in Dallas where, for the most part, it always feels like a Friday. Hit up one of the following events tonight and you'll be reminded once again just how true that statement really is.

For just the second time, the Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery will feature an exhibition largely made up of non-photo-based items. The thinking — far as we can tell — is that, by putting old, rare toys and collectibles on display, the artists are questioning what inherent quality makes these objects so, well, collectible. — Cory Graves
Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington
The Rangers have now gone 12 and 2 against the Astros this year, and that includes a four-game sweep at their place earlier this month. Expect more of the same tonight as the AL West-leading Rangers continue to make their push towards the postseason. The Astros, meanwhile, boast the worst record in the majors and appear poised to make history as the first team to possess the No. 1 overall draft pick in three consecutive seasons. — CG
The Riverboat Gamblers at Rubber Gloves
The Riverboat Gamblers remain one of the best live bands you'll ever see. On a recent trip through town, frontman Mike Wiebe proved as much by scaling the balcony at Trees, climbing onto the second-story handrails and posing before descending back to the floor, unhurt. On this night they'll be joined by Blacklist Royals, comedian John Tole, and Stymie. — Pete Freedman
Vulgar Fashion, Daniel Francis Doyle, Hex Cult at J&J's
The quick and lowdown for tonight's eclectic basement bill are as follows: The cover is just $3, the performance marks the first in a tour for Doyle and his band, and the show starts firmly at 9 p.m. due to the pizza joint wanting to close shop by midnight. Or, in other words, if headliners Vulgar Fashion don't get started before 11:55, then J&J's will become the second venue in recent months to shut the band down after just five minutes. — CG
