What Can You Get at Deep Ellum's New Grocery? Well, That's Up To You.
So. Deep Ellum finally has its own grocery store. Deep Ellum Postal and Grocer is officially open for business at the corner of Main and Hall Street.
As for the products, expect the basics for now with more to come in the future. Just don't go in hoping to get blown away by a million options for trendy quinoa and kale snacks. That's not what its all about.
“We already have an organic selection consisting of yogurt, milk, and eggs,” says P&G owner Brandon Castillo, who locals may recognize as the mind behind the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market. “I've got a selection of household items and snacks that you can find any almost any grocery or convenience store. Over the next week, I'm getting product from my vendors from the market.”
Relatively bare for now or not, at least it's something. Before the P&G, the closest place for Ellumites to go to stock their homes with simple grocery items was the Aldi at Gaston and Haskell. Now Deep Ellum and Downtown residents have somewhere new to try out — and to help grow
That's the great thing about this grocery, really. Castillo is asking the customers to help dictate what kind of inventory Deep Ellum P&G will have in the upcoming future.
“Really, instead of doing a blow out grand opening, we're waiting to get input from the community before committing big dollars to inventory,” Castillo says.
So shop, shop and shop if you want your input heard, Ellumites. This could be the start of big neighborhood-specific things for our beloved city — especially with Downtown getting its own Urban Orchard Market grocery store later this month.
