Dallas Leads Nation in Gender Pay Equality, Is One of Two U.S. Cities Where Women Out-Earn Men.
Texas may very much have its fair share of issues when it comes to women's rights, but there's at least one area in which Dallas really does stand out as a not-so-horrible-location for women: the workplace.
According to this report from the Seattle Times, which uses U.S. Census Bureau statistics from 2011 as its source material, Dallas leads the nation when it comes to gender pay equality.
The study finds that Dallas is one of just three U.S. cities — along with Oakland and Los Angeles — in which women and men work on nearly level pay fields. Actually, in Dallas and Los Angeles, women actually tend to earn more than their male counterparts; Dallas women actually earn $1.02 for every $1 earned by their male workplace counterparts. Los Angeles women, meanwhile, earn $1.01 for every male $1 earned.
By comparison, women in Seattle only earn 80 cents for every $1 earned by their male counterparts, and women in Charlotte only earn 74 cents for every male dollar.
Oh, and the worst city in America when it comes to gender pay equality? Wichita, Kansas, where women only earn 71 cents for every dollar earned by their male coworkers.
Anyway: High five, Dallas.
