New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton Spent Last Season Coaching Pee-Wee Football in Argyle.

During the 2012 NFL season, Sean Payton, the Super Bowl-winning coach head coach of the New Orleans Saints, was suspended from the league for his team's involvement in a bounty scandal.

So how'd he spend the time off? Well, he returned home in North Texas and he coached. Only, uh, he coached his sixth-grade son Connor's football team. The Liberty Christian Warriors of Argyle.

Oh, and and get this: He took the back seat, working as an offensive assistant. Still, it seems as if Payton's involvement with the Warriors was successful. The team only lost two games the entire season — both to the Springtown Orange Porcupines.

But, as noted in this article over on Grantland, Payton maybe deserves to be cut some slack for even those two defeats. The Orange Porcupines' offense was so good that Payton felt compelled to enlist Bill Parcells and Jon Gruden to help devise a defense to stop them.

Parcells, as you no doubt know, is a former Dallas Cowboys coach, two-time Super Bowl winner and a Hall of Famer. Gruden also has a Super Bowl win under his belt.

Their efforts didn't help, though. The first time the Warriors lost to the Orange Porcupines during the regular season, the score was 38-6. And, even with the help of these NFL legends, the Warriors still lost 58-18 to the Orange Porcupines in their league's championship game.

The offensive scheme that couldn't be stopped is the single wing, a formation so old it dates back to the leather-helmet, no-facemask days. It's implemented into pee-wee football schemes mostly because it's pretty basic.

But if a combined four Super Bowl rings can't stop the offense, does that mean that it could work in the NFL? Who knows.

All we know is that, we won't stop asking Payton if he'll ever coach the Cowboys. Surely, single wing deficiencies and all, the team could still use his help.
