The best part of four-day weekends Well, Going on a quick vacation is nice. And drinking like it's going out of style sure is fun.
Our personal favorite aspect of these once-in-a-blue-moon delights, though? The opportunity to just screw around and eschew all responsibilities altogether.
Unfortunately, the worst part of four-day weekend — the collective aftermath — may just outweigh all of those other things. The massive hangover, the mound of work waiting on your desk come Monday morning, the general slowness with which the post-holiday work week begins — it blows, all of it.
Still, you shouldn't let this slow you down. Not tonight.
Consider this evening a chance remind yourself of all the killer events that happen every Monday around town — affairs that, we admit, even we sometimes overlook. So try to head on out to Amsterdam Bar, Adair's Saloon, Opening Bell Coffee or Crown and Harp later on. Each of these spots has some great — albeit completely different — offerings tonight.
Lorelle Meets the Obsolete at Rubber Gloves
Guadalajara Mexico's Lorelle Meets the Obsolete is probably best classified as a psych-rock band, featuring just the kind of fuzzy guitar work and spaced-out vocals that the band's name implies. More interesting, however, is when the band's shoegaze and krautrock influences shine through, giving way to an electronics-tinged wall of sound that never fails to intrigue. This one should be really good, you guys. Definitely worth the trip up I-35E. — Stephen Young

Coffee shops and singer-songwriters go together like Frostys and french fries, so it's no surprise Opening Bell on Lamar hosts a weekly session for aspiring and established acoustic types to alike work on their sound. This week's edition features touring Boston duo The Dwells, whose intricate harmonies should highlight the evening. — SY
Cool Out Mondays at Crown and Harp
The club may have a new name, but to the throngs of service industry folks and dancefloor junkies who've been flocking to DJ Tony Schwa's Monday night offerings since circa 2007, not much else has changed. Plus, since returning to its original location a few weeks back, this weekly dance party has been thriving more than ever lately. — Cory Graves
Badass Jazz at Amsterdam Bar
While Monday is typically a slow night for most bars, it remains one of the Amsterdam's busiest. That much be credited to local sax wizard Shelly Carroll and his crop of old-school jazz cronies. Just because there's no cover charge doesn't mean this isn't the best jazz event in town. Carroll proves as much on a weekly basis. — CG
Sugarfoote and Co. at Adair's Saloon
The beer-swilling, good-timin' country and folk tunes that Cody Foote and his pals crank out during their Monday night residency has become a favorite of Deep Ellumites and service industry folks alike. Ad, after a couple $8 pitchers and a famous Adair's burger, even the strictest nine-to-fivers might think about calling in and taking off Tuesday morning. — CG
Frisco Roughriders vs. NW Arkansas Naturals at Dr. Pepper Ballpark
Given the dearth of non-recurring options tonight, you may want to check the Rangers Double-A affiliate in Frisco. Minor league baseball certainly has its charms, many of which are accentuated by the intimate environment of the Roughriders' Dr. Pepper Ballpark. Think of it as like seeing your favorite band just before they get huge. Except with sports! — SY
