Bowlounge Rolls Out Its Full Menu and Brian Luscher Branches Out.
Welcome to The Spread, our new weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that's fit to print. Except that this is the Internet, so space isn't a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.
The best American holiday of the year has once again arrived. That's right: It's time to kick back with a few homies, grab some of your favorite American brews and dine on all the glorious and delicious comestibles you can get your hands on.
While getting ready to do so, though, you might want to keep in mind that the folks over at Green Grocer are making things so much easier on your wallet with a 25 percent discount on all their pasture-raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free meats starting tomorrow morning. We highly suggest hitting them up as early as possible, though; they'll be shutting their doors at 6 p.m. to join in on the celebration themselves.
In case you'd prefer having someone else cook for you this holiday weekend, the folks over at Hook Line and Sinker are offering $10 all-you-can-eat crawfish tomorrow — along with several drink specials — as part of their Texas Summer Nights and Boil Out celebration. What better way to celebrate the Fourth and send off crawfish season than to stuff your face and indulge in specialty cocktails on the cheap?
On the other hand, for those interested in kicking off the celebrations a little early, the Southlake Stars and Stripes Celebration will start up tonight at 6 p.m. The event will feature a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., along with several of North Texas' favorite food trucks on site, including Easy Slider, Tutta's Pizza, Yellow Belly, Cajun Tailgaters and Rock and Roll Tacos.
Whew. With all these celebrations going on the rest of this week, you may already be dreading the onset of that inevitable post-holiday hangover. Sure, there are ways to avoid an epic hangover — but most of them involve not drinking. Can't muster up that kind of willpower? Screw it. The geniuses over at Holy Grail Pub have got your back. For their weekend-long Smoke Out Party, they'll be serving up bacon-injected brisket, beer-can chicken, limited release summer seasonal beers and vodka fruit infusions to help ease the pain of even the most hardcore of American celebrations. It's been our experience, at least, that a combo featuring mounds of greasy meat and the hair of the dog that bit you is, indeed, the best way to cure a hangover.
Speaking of mounds of meat, the recently opened, Twisted Root-backed Bowlounge just unveiled their full menu, which will feature stacked burgers, high-end tacos and special-made sandwiches to complement their retro bowling and craft beer atmosphere. Oh and their s'mores and coconut caramel swirl milk shakes sound absolutely incredible, too.
On the subject of new menus, Highland Park's Bistro 31 also just revealed their new European-inspired menu, which will include new appetizers, brunch, dinner and dessert options. And if their Facebook page is any indication, things are getting deliciously creative in their kitchen.
Meanwhile, as Bistro 31 is looking to spruce up their menu, the minds behind Velvet Taco are planning to honor their late, great founder, Rusty Felton, who unfortunately lost his battle with cancer last week, by making their “Rusty Taco” this week's Weekly Featured Taco — or WTF taco, for those of you who started partying a little early. Furthermore, the restaurant will be donating half of the proceeds from each of these tacos — featuring house-made corn tortillas filled with slow-roasted achiote pork shoulder, avocado crema, grilled pineapple, queso fresco, fresh cilantro and pickled red onion tacos — to benefit the educational pursuits of Felton's daughters.
On a lighter note, here are some quick-hitters: Lower Greenville upstart Dallas Beer Kitchen has officially opened its doors; Three Squares, a bakery-inspired breakfast, lunch and dinner spot, is set to open their doors out in Frisco later this week; Alligator Cafe sets its sights on expansion with a new location opening up in the old Rosemont spot on Elm Street; and news broke that Brian Luscher — owner of The Grape and creator of one of the undisputed best burgers in town — will be opening up a new restaurant over on Gaston Avenue later this year.
You can bet we'll definitely be keeping tabs on that.
