Remember forgetters.
In what has to be a unforeseen consequence of the state's reformed drug laws, drug dogs in Washington state are having to be retrained. These dogs are now receiving instruction on how to ignore the scent of what is now a legal substance, marijuana.
How, exactly, state officials are doing this, we have no idea. But we'd like to think it involves a bunch of incense and Ben Harper's “Burn One Down.”
We should note, of course, that Dallas Police Department dogs have received no such training. Marijuana remains very much an illicit substance in theses here parts. So keep on taking whatever precautions you usually take out there tonight, Dallas.
forgetters at Three Links
Brooklyn hardcore trio forgetters brings the thrash to Deep Ellum for a punk triple bill featuring locals Here Holy Spain. forgetters could be considered something of a “supergroup,” as the band features former members of Jawbreaker, Against Me! and Bitchin', but the band seems to prefer keeping things low-key, having released just one eponymously named LP since their formation in 2009. Don't expect that desire to stay under the radar to extend to their stage presence, though. This group knows how to put on an all-out punk show, for sure. — Stephen Young
Yeezus Listening Party at Sundown
Though Yeezus is the name of Kanye West's new album, let us not forget: This not the first time that Ye has referred to himself as the son of God. And, somehow, we get the feeling that it's far from the last time he'll do so, either. Decide for yourself if his new album is transcendent enough to back such claims as DJ Blake Ward hosts a listening party as part of his weekly residency at at the Sundown. He's undoubtedly a trendsetter, but whether he's the Steve Jobs of music? Well, that's for you to decide. — Jessica Petrocchi
Somebody's Darling at The Where House
Local roots-rockers Somebody's Darling return to Fort Worth with Funkytown mainstays Foxtrot Uniform and Austin's Ruby Fray, who's signed to K Records. There are no advance tickets for this show, so be sure and show up on time for easy entry. — SY
Escape at the Dallas Arboretum
Dallas' best — maybe only? — Journey tribute band stops by the Arboretum tonight to offer up some second-hand advice. Whatever you do, says the band, “Don't stop believin'.” Oh, and if that weren't enough to convince you to keep holding on to that feeling, let us remind you that the person who shows up this evening in the best rock star costume will win a two-night stay at the Fairmont Hotel. Keep in mind, of course, that the summer heat here in Dallas is pretty killer, so make sure you hydrate well if you're going to don that much spandex. Remember that this a family friendly event, too. So maybe keep that vintage '80s micro leather skirt in the closet for now. — JP
Daikaiju, Doom Ghost and The Ape Hangers at Lola's
Daikaiju describes itself as follows “Premium action heroes deliver most high rocket music! Special reverb skill combo for full impact! Loud sonic boom for earful pleasure! Beautiful radiation of hyper-dimensional springy sound creates divine psychic wind for your special defense! Worship Psycho-surf band Daikaiju daily for good luck and health!” Listen: When a band's own website describes the groups work in terms that can be best described as stoner Chinese-restaurant menuese, you can expect to be in for a pretty weird night. Expect a loud, reverb-drenched set with plenty of show-offy instrumentals from this mysterious, masked Alabama quartet. — SY
