Scenes From Last Night's The Neighbourhood and The 1975 Show at Trees.
Trees was packed last night. And not just for the headliners, either.
Long before top-of-the-bill California quintet The Neighbourhood ever thought about taking the stage and a full 45 minutes before their likeminded alt-rock British tour support in The 1975 even kicked the show off, you could hardly move about the space.
So you knew at least this much just by walking into the doors of the Deep Ellum venue last night: This crowd was ready.
To wit: These fans — a younger set for the most part — cheered for anything that simply suggested that the Neighbourhood was going to hit the stage. And when the lights finally dimmed and fog went up for those headliners' set, they roared — first for the backing members of the band, then for frontman Jesse Rutherford, who followed. When the group finally started playing, the crowd went absolutely apeshit, their fandom gushing from all angles.
But, really, the excitement was there all night. Boasting a similar sonic style to The Neighbourhood, frontman Matthew Healy and the rest of The 1975 clearly caught the hearts of these teenage music lovers, too.
Everyone seemed to get a kick out of this enthusiastic environment, too — fans and performers alike. From the smallest bit of crowd interaction to the loudest singalong moments of the bands' biggest songs, this night was a winner from start to finish.
