Get Lucky at Sundown.
Technically, Daft Punk's Random Access Memories and The National's Trouble Will Find Me both officially come out today.
Thing is, I've already heard both of them multiple times, and I'm sure you have too. This is the new normal. Bands allow their albums to stream before their releases now. It's how things work. And, hey, I get it; it makes sense for bands to do this. I mean, if albums are going to leak anyway, artists might as well try to limit piracy as best they can.
But, while it's admittedly cool to hear the albums early, it takes a lot of the juice out of the official release day buzz when there's an advance stream, no?
I guess the future comes at a price.
On that note, here's your futurecast for this evening.
The Baptist Generals at Good Records
Tonight, after a 10-year wait, The Baptist Generals will finally celebrate the release of their long-awaited second full-length, Jackleg Devotional to the Heart, complete with a performance live from the AstroTurf at Good Records. Songwriter Chris Flemmons trashed the band's first attempt at the album in 2005 because it sounded “like any other indie rock-type band,” so expect some unique-sounding material when the Denton band takes the stage on the fake grass at Good Records. There'll be free Sonny Bryan's barbecue and PBR for everyone. That should help put some fun back into New Music Tuesday, no?
ANTiSEEN at Three Links
North Carolina punks ANTiSEEN headline tonight's quadruple-bill at Three Links. Frontman Jeff Clayton is well-known for his on-stage antics, which include cutting himself with shards of glass and beating himself bloody on his microphone. I'm just saying: If you plan on standing close to the stage at this show, you might want to wear something splatter-proof.
Tuxedo Junction at the Dallas Arboretum
The Arboretum's summer concert series continues with the big band stylings of Tuxedo Junction. Need more motivation to hit up tonight's concert? This very well could be one of your last chances to check out the Arboretum's flora in its fully glory before the Texas summer singes it to a lovely shade of brown.
Unofficial Daft Punk CD Release Party at Sundown
DJ Blake Ward is encouraging robot-related hijinks at this all-Daft Punk edition of his weekly Sundown residency. Bring your best dance moves and wear your robot gear. Seriously, there'll be prizes for folks who do.
Open Mic Tuesday at the Dallas Comedy House
Try out your new bit in Deep Ellum as part of the Dallas Comedy House's weekly open mic. Or, you know, watch that smug bastard who thinks he's the funniest guy at his office bomb.
Dentonradio.com Showcase at Dan's Silverleaf
Thinking of heading north tonight? Hitting Dan's for Dentonradio.com's free show featuring Gravity Feed, Bone Doggy and the Hickory Street Hellraisers is a solid option.
