A Group of Dudes Broke Into a Downtown Parking Garage. Then They Did Something Awesome.

For the past week or so, we've been trying to get to the bottom of a video posted to the Dallas subreddit with the subject line “Who would have thought this was in Dallas?” Not because the video is necessarily so unlike anything else you'd find in Dallas — it's not, the skyline shots are a dead giveaway that this is Dallas, and these guys aren't even the first to attempt this stunt, turns out — but because this three-minute clip in particular is just so goddamn awesome.

Here's the gist of it: A group of friends decked out in costumes snuck into the parking garage across Commerce Street from the downtown Neiman Marcus location late one night and proceeded to race some flying turtle scooters down the massive — and kinda gorgeous — spiral ramp that goes up and down the otherwise nondescript structure. And they brought some friends along to film the whole damn thing.

It's an amazing video, one that will make you want to go out and do something fun, if not something incredibly stupid, like right now. Check it out:

Pretty much every factor of this clip works out in its favor: The visuals of the lot itself are cool; the scooters are hilarious; the dudes riding them seem congenial and happy-go-lucky enough; their costumes are funny; the filming and editing is spot-on; and the music — Dallas singer-songwriter John Steen's song “Surf,” appropriately enough — is a perfect pairing for all the action.

Hell, if the dudes in the clip didn't look like they were having such a genuine good time, we'd go ahead and declare Steen the winner of this video. The singer, who has performed a handful of Prophet Bar gigs in the past and who will be releasing his debut EP this summer, basically got a boss music video out of this deal, free of charge.

It doesn't seem as if that was the motive here, though. The Youtube account behind the videos seems to indicate that this clip marks the beginning of a possible comedy channel from the group. Tough to say for sure, though, as our attempts to reach out the the video's creators over the past few days haven't yet panned out.

So, for now, all we can do is watch the clip and enjoy it, I guess. Which, hey, is fine enough.

Great video, fellas. Whoever you are.
