Kung Fu Saloon Now Offers Free Games All The Time. And, Hey, That's a Start!
If you've noticed McKinney Avenue becoming a little more bearable of late, there's a reason: Much of the douchier clientele of the region has been pulled off that once-immensely popular strip in favor of a new, even more popular strip of late.
This new area? Developers are referring to it as “Uptown Plaza,” but you may better know it as “That part of Uptown by the Quadrangle where Routh Street runs into Cedar Springs.”
So what's drawing these crowds to this new part of town? Well, in particular, it's a row of newish bars that's doing it — a strip that includes the Austin-themed 6th Street-Uptown, the dance-inclined Concrete Cowboy, the not-sure-what-it-is Primebar and the arcade-focused Kung Fu Saloon.
Of these newish establishments, it's Kung Fu that's easily the most bearable, with its sort of high-rent Barcadia vibe. But the crowd it attracts? Man. Kind of a bummer — and especially so on Sundays. Shame, too, as that should be the best time to visit Kung Fu. That's when the many, many arcade games and skeeball machines scattered about the place can be played for free (awesome), only the paths to them are blocked by impenetrable clouds of hair spray and Axe body spray from the Uptown day-drinking set (not awesome).
Well, good news, then: Yesterday, the folks behind Kung Fu's Dallas location made a pretty cool announcement: Starting today, all games in the spot can be played for free — and all of the time, no matter the day.
Hey, it's a step in the right direction, for sure.
No word yet, though, on when might be the best time to visit Kung Fu now. Let us know if you've got any tips on the matter, yeah?
