Scenes From The First-Ever Sold-Out Show at Three Links.

Saturday in Dallas, clearly, was all sorts of stupid busy.

And yet somehow not lost in the shuffle was an otherwise smaller-scale event — well, one that was at least smaller-scale in theory.

With middle fingers in the air and aimed at the rest of the region's busy Saturday schedule, a handful of area bands with dedicated fans — Goodnight Ned, Somebody's Darling, Bravo Max! and Dead Flowers, the last of whom was celebrating the release of their debut LP, For You — took to the stage at Deep Ellum's newest venue, the recently soft-opened Three Links, and, in the process, with droves of fans in tow, sold the place out for the very first time in the venue's young history.

They were literally turning people away at the door. Lots of 'em, too. And justifiably at that, as the place was packed and rightly: Without frills, the bands on this bill have slowly and surely built up strong, dedicated area audiences in recent years with their workmanlike attitudes, tight play and raucous displays.

Saturday was no different as these acts performed to hoots, hollers and cheers.

It was an encouraging display, to be sure — and not just for the bands, but for the venue, which, with its early booking calendar (see: The Dwarves and The Queers on May 3, Titus Andronicus on May 8, Valient Thorr on June 27, etc.), is already proving itself an attractive option on the ever-increasingly busy local music landscape.
