Scenes From Saturday Night's Sold-Out Frightened Rabbit Show at Trees.

From the first note, Frightened Rabbit had the entire audience at Trees' attention on Saturday night.

And, it should be noted, that was no small feat: This was a huge crowd — like a nowhere-to-stand-without-bumping-into-someone-else crowd, and even in the bathrooms.

It was that big of an audience.

And even though the band is known for its emotive indie rock, the night maintained a merry atmosphere thanks to frontman Scott Hutchison's comedic relief between songs. Every song, even.

Given that, it's hard to imagine that Hutchison's band is named after a nickname his mother once gave him. Really, Hutchison couldn't have seemed more comfortable on stage than he did on Saturday night. At one point, before getting the song “Old Old Fashioned,” he even offered a little encouragement to the guys in the room, joking about finding a dance partner in the dark room and saying that, if they can't find a dance partner, the could at least use this opportunity to show off their sensitivity and shed a tear or two.

But it wasn't all jokes throughout the night. This was the last night of the tour for Frightened Rabbit and Wintersleep, the opening band who Hutchison gushed about so excessively that he even likened his spoken affection for them to a hand job. Later, Hutchison noted that he couldn't think of a better place to finish a tour, since it's been so long his band's been in Dallas. And the room definitely reciprocated the feeling. Throughout the 90-minute set, the audience met the beginning of each song with a cheer and sang along for each.

“Congratulations, Dallas,” Hutchison said after the end of his band's set, just before returning a few minutes to finish with a three-song encore. “You fucking win.”

And, yeah, it sure felt that way. It was a victorious night.
