I've said all I need to say about this here.
The Host.
Director: Andrew Niccol.
Writers: Stephenie Meyer, Andrew Niccol.
Cast: Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel.
Where's it playing? Various Metroplex megaplexes.
Based on a novel by Stephanie Meyer (The Twilight Saga), The Host is the latest young adult supernatural love triangle film attempting to capture lightning in a bottle — in which the lightning is money and the bottle are tweens that aren't able to tell the difference between a good movie and a bad one. I actually saw this movie. It's atrocious.
Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
Director: Tyler Perry.
Writer: Tyler Perry
Cast: Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Vanessa Williams, Brandy Norwood, Kim Kardashian.
Where's it playing? Various Metroplex megaplexes.
Kim Kardashian makes her “acting” debut in this new one from Tyler Perry. Well, unless you count Disaster Movie, which coincidentally could have been the title for this film, too. Here's the plot: A married woman (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) is led by a debonair billionaire (Lance Gross) into a world of betrayal and recklessness, forever altering the course of her life. Alternate title suggestion: Madea's Prenuptial Agreement.
Donnie Darko.
Director: Richard Kelly.
Writer: Richard Kelly.
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Patrick Swayze, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore.
Where's it playing? Friday and Saturday at midnight at the Inwood Theatre!
I may begin to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion if you miss Richard Kelly's instant cult classic featuring a young Jake Gyllenhaal as a time-traveling teen with his own Mr. Peabody in the form of a giant creeptastic bunny.
The Evil Dead (1981) in 35MM.
Director: Sam Raimi.
Writer: Sam Raimi.
Cast: Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor.
Where's it playing? Through Sunday, March 31, at The Texas Theatre.
To prepare yourself for the upcoming remake of Sam Raimi's lo-fi horror classic, revisit the original that started it all and introduced us to both Raimi and The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell. Is it one of the greatest genre films of all time? Yes. Yes, it is. And, if you see it on Friday night, you can stick around for a night of terrifying horror soundtracks and other terrorizing tracks with a special edition of Horror Scores//Terror Synth with DJs Gavin Guthrie and Travis Box.
