Go Rock Out in Lewisville For Once.

Is your week dragging a bit? After the past few music festival filled weeks, we all surely needed some kind of break. Oh, how our poor livers ach.

How about checking out some dueling robots out in Irving or indulging in cupcakes while some of Denton’s finest musical acts delight your ear holes?

Come on Dallas! Jolt your system awake and check out this quite epic list of events that are sure to put that pep back in your step.

First Robotics Competition at the Irving Convention Center
Here's what you need to know: There's a robotics competition going on at the Irving Convention Center starting today and going through Friday. So, basically, we're getting three days of BattleBots out in Irving. The whole thing is bring thrown by First, a non-profit organization aimed at inspiring and encouraging today's youth to become tomorrow's science and technology leaders. As such, all of the competitors are in high school. But you can still come and watch and be all like, “Oh, so these are the kids we're going to lean on to make sure we don't get lapped by China.”

Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights at Hat Tricks
Lewisville's most rocking sport bar plays host to Dallas' own Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights tonight. Haven't heard much out of Jonathan Tyler and Co. since their New Year's Eve show at the Granada? There's a reason for that: They're working on a new album, their second for Atlantic Records. Hassle them about it tonight. I'm sure they'll appreciate it.

Paul Slavens at Bryan Street Tavern
Tonight's event is being called “Paul Slavens makes up stupid songs for you,” which is fitting because that's what he does.

Sparkle Tunnel Dance Party at the Where House
Former Neon Indian guitarist Ronnie Heart, himself something of a musical badass, continues his weekly Fort Worth dance party tonight.

Cool Womb, Babar, New Science Projects, Peopleodeon and Spooky Folk J&J's Pizza in Denton
Haven't yet seen any of these fine Denton-based acts? Tonight's your night. There are even going to be free cupcakes and everything.

Frankie J at the House of Blues
Eight years later, this Latino R&B singer is still riding high off his bilingual 2005 summer hit “Obsession (No Es Amor).” Good for him, I guess.

Matthew Olzmann and Vievee Francis at Paschall Bar
In the mood to tickle that literary itch? Look no further than Denton's Kraken Reading Series, which tonight offers a whole slew of poetry readings and literary conversations presented by an array of revolving poets and authors from across the country.

Vinyl Preservation Society at Barley House
Tonight the Vinyl Preservation society will celebrate all things lazy. Whether it's that song you put on to lounge around the house or that one album you feel that didn't have enough oomph, bring your favorite lazy day records on over to Barley House. Or, y'know, don't. Because you're lazy.
