Three Local Debuts You May Have Already Missed Today.

In yesterday's White Noise column, we mentioned a whole slew of acts around town getting some national shine from websites like MTV Hive and AOL Spinner. This morning, that trend continues to a degree, as three more local acts have released some killer new jams to help promote their upcoming releases, two of which were once again featured on national outlets.

Here's what you may have missed, provided you weren't scanning the Internet on your smart phone over breakfast or lunch.

Baptist Generals — “Dog That Bit You”
“At long last, the Baptist Generals record is beginning to see the light of day,” wrote band member Paul Slavens on his Facebook page this morning. Nearly 10 years after 2003's No Silver/No Gold was released, the band (pictured) has completed work on a new album, and Jackleg Devotional To The Heart will be released on May 21 via Sub Pop. Fans of the band won't have to wait that long to hear the disc in full, though: Wristband holders to this year's 35 Denton festival can get a sneak preview of the long-awaited album at the band's March 8 listening party at Dan's Silverleaf. Vulgar Fashion — “Krystal Tearz”
At their recent show at Fort Worth venue The Grotto, Denton's fuzzy lo-fi synth duo Vulgar Fashion began selling vinyl copies of their upcoming five-song EP, a full month prior to its official March 19 release date. Like Pinkish Black — the band they also happened to perform with that night — did about year ago, the band is releasing their self-titled effort on North Texas label Handmade Birds. And, again, just like that Pinkish Black record was a year ago, Vulgar Fashion was featured in Pitchfork this morning. Whether they will continue to follow in PB's footsteps by signing a deal with a label like Century Media in the coming months, though, remains to be seen.

Booty Fade — “Styrofoam Cup”
Exactly three weeks ago, local hip-hop stalwarts DJ Sober and Picnictyme debuted the first track from their new collaborative project Booty Fade. In short: “F#$K Like a Stripper” was a certified, club-ready jam. This morning, they debuted another new track via DC9 at Night. Our prediction? Their ode to purple drank, “Styrofoam Cup,” is sure to become the same type of go-to party starter in the coming weeks that “F#$K Like a Stripper” has already become. We'll know for sure when they make their live debut on March 8 at It'll Do.
