Home by Hovercraft's Time-Traveling Rock Opera Scores Second Run.
Exciting news today on that exceptionally rare local-band-penned-rock-opera front: On The Eve — the sometimes confounding but endlessly entertaining musical from the minds of Home by Hovercraft's husband-and-wife tandem of Seth and Shawn Magill — has scored a second run after dazzling critics and enjoying two weeks of a sold-out run back in November and early December.
Though no specific string of dates has yet been announced, it was announced yesterday that the musical has already been added to the 2013-2014 calendar of Uptown's Theatre Three.
“[It] will probably be either right before or right after Christmas,” Magill tells us. She figures the exact dates will be announced at some point in April, once the rest of the theater's calendar is locked into place, but warns: “Things can still move around.”
Magill's speaking of dates here, of course. But she might as well be talking up her musical's new home, too. Thanks to Theatre Three's in-the-round layout, On The Eve's borderline interactive way of telling its bizarre tale of Marie Antoinette and the world's first-ever time-travelling balloon should remain intact.
Also of note: A number of On The Eve songs can also be heard on Home by Hovercraft's just soon-to-be-released debut LP, Are We Chameleons?, including the song “Rocket,” which you can stream below.
