Scenes From Friday Night's Somebody's Darling and White Ghost Shivers Show at The Kessler.
Don't look now, but the Kessler Theater's got itself quite the impressive-looking concert calendar coming up, with scheduled appearances from such vaunted acts as country darling Tift Merritt, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ra Ra Riot, Mike Doughty, Butch Walker, The Relatives and Hayes Carll lying on the immediate horizon.
Hell, it's just been a good 2013 in general for the Oak Cliff spot. Just two weekends back, the place hosted a set from experimental icons The Residents. And, not long before that, the venue finally bit the bullet and adorned its entrance way with a marquee finally befitting its impressive inside space.
Certainly, the good fortune gods were smiling down kindly on the Kessler this past weekend, too, as the theater played host sets from local alt-country favorites Somebody's Darling and the vaudevillian-indebted, Austin-based White Ghost Shivers.
Photographer extraordinaire Karlo X. Ramos was on the scene for us at this show, capturing the goodness below. Accordingly to a note we got from Karlo, it was an impressive display at the venue — and not just because White Ghost Shivers frontman Shorty Stump might technically qualify as a giant.
Seriously, though: Just look at that dude. Think he gets asked often if he plays basketball?
