Help Art Conspiracy Say Thanks Tonight at the Double Wide.
Mondays suck. We all know it. The fact has been ingrained in our collective cultural subconscious since a chubby orange feline first expressed his disdain back in '78.
What Monday represents for both the young and old is a return to the trudge of real life. Where Friday and Saturday, for adults and children respectively, represent the quintessential play days, Monday is the necessary departure — the single twinkling street light, lining the proverbial cul de sac of each week.
I hate that fucking street light. I put it out with a slingshot once. My dad had to pay for it. He kicked my ass for that shit.
Luckily, however, this particular Monday ain't so bad.
Art Con 8 Thank You Party at Double Wide
The artistes of Art Conspiracy are more than appreciative of Art Con 8's turnout and reception back in November. And, being the fine folks these artsy types are, they're throwing a get-down at everyone's favorite dive, The Double Wide, beginning at 7 p.m. tonight as a way to say thanks. There will be live music, plus food provided by the Nammi Food Truck. Art Conspiracy will also present checks to Art Con 8's beneficiaries, Girls Rock Dallas and the W.T. White Ceramics Program. Those who contributed to the event will skip admission, while those looking to show love and enjoy a good time are to expect a meager $5 cover.
Adult Night at Legoland Discovery Center
Adult Night at Grapevine Mills' Legoland Discovery Center is an every-child-left-behind event held the last Monday of every month. Both the casual, child-at-heart types and the LEGO-obsessed are welcome to a night of multicolored, plastic wonderment for an advanced online ticket price of $12.99. From what I can tell, there's no alcohol involved and, now that I think about it, that might be a good call.
Poor Vida and Rec Shop Present: Battle of the Freestyle MC at Zubar
A hip-hop tradition as vital as the original DJ/MC dynamic and the instrumental breaks from which hip-hop dance initially sprang, battle rap maintains its rhythmic pulse in the heartbeat of popular culture. Tonight, Poor Vida and Rec Shop join forces to bring in local acts and aspiring mic-wreckers under one roof in pursuit of not only bragging rights as the superior defamatory poet, but a $100 prize. Admission is non-existent and there will be drink specials from 10 p.m. to close.
Pint Nite At Flying Saucer
Because who doesn't like cheap beer aplenty? With much of their selection discounted at $3 a pint, Fort Worth's Flying Saucer sounds like the perfect enclave to even momentarily escape our chronic micromanaging supervisors and pressures of multiple girlfriends. (Oh, that's just me?)
Open Stage at House Of Poets
There's a passive-aggressive beatnik inside all of us, rambling and mumbling in angsty, incoherent protests against capitalist societal systems and in favor of more vegan options at the community college. House of Poets presents an honest and enjoyable opportunity for not only lyricists to shine, but entertainers of all sorts. Cover is only five bucks and each five-minute performance is video recorded. Who wants to share a soy chai latte?
